What a dumb suggestion. WBA trying to get that money. Benavidez/Canelo is the biggest fight out there, especially for freaking September. I'm sure people are clamoring for Benavidez and Morrell, though.
Canelo would likely dump the belt if they try to strong-arm him like the WBC once tried.

should've tracked him down better or punched him harder if he wanted the stoppage
Did you forget that Plant held Benavidez when he got within an inch of him. The referee also stopped the action when Plant was hurt. Last i checked, this was boxing, not wrestling. Benavidez was fighting 2 opponents in that football-stadium sized ring.
all these excuses, you shouldnt have to be making any if benavidez was so so so much better as you said. he could've maybe stopped plant too if his foot work were better to track him down, or if he punched harder and did more damage with what he landed, or if he had it in him to fight a full 12 rather than starting so slow, but nah......it's everyone elses fault, waaaa

You're just trolling or have selective vision. Yeah, let's give every fighter almost 5 minutes just to get a random doctor check when they're almost knocked out. Let's just forgo rings and start having them box on a football field. Actually, forget the gloves let's just have them wrestle.
Are we really at a point now, where boxers have to "unify" their made up titles to become a mandatory?
Even the organizations know their titles don't mean shit anymore.
Those CompuBox stats tell a different story to what I saw last night.
Then again I went in watching with a different set of expectations to what Caleb Plant had. I was surprised to see Plant box so well for the first few rounds. He was in great shape and in no obvious hurry to attain the status of a gatekeeper /journeyman just yet.
I was also surprised to see Benavidez fight so patiently and so controlled. It wasn't the Benavidez I wanted to see but then once again I was wrong.
That was exactly the way he should have fought. As Benavidez said afterwards once he caught Plant with a body shot in the 4th he felt the tide begin to turn. Many fans were saying Benavidez should go to the body and they were right. It was a different Caleb Plant in the 2nd half.
Benavidez Sr also got it absolutely right and full credit to him.
Both fighters came out of that with a lot of respect but referee Kenny Bayless, as they say, could have done better, a lot better.
he did a hell of an acting job as an unbiased ref numerous times while he was paid off by the a side to reach deep in his bag of dirty little tricks almost unnoticeably, subtly but surely favouring their fighter while faking impartiality.
while he shouldn't ever be allowed even near a fuckin' boxing ring, he still gets his share of the big fights.
good ol' kenny is one of the very best at his job.
It was a very good-togh fight, no doubt, but Bena would just need to add another good name on his resume like Andrade or maybe Morrell to really earn a fight with Canelo. Canelo was the man who stopped an undefeated champion in Caleb Plant.
Canelo has a bigger and better fish to fry in Bivol.
Bivol would put Benavidez through a plane crash. Benavidez has to stop and stand still to throw his hooks and he has seemingly no straight-shot power at mid or long range. That imobility and armament type would get devasted against Bivol, who is highly mobile, heavily protected with an upright guard, fires repeated 4-6 punch combinations straight-down-the-middle, and has a super-long fuel tank. Against Bivol's specifications the Benavidez design, regardless of variants, is no match at all.

True, Bivol is a top, top full options fighter. He has power too. Canelo wants to rematch him at 175 which is great!

Benavidez vs Andrade would be a good one too!
I'm confidently picking Bivol over Bena too. So, this matchup isn't the most wanted now, as well as Bivol vs Canelo 2. It's Canelo, who must fight Bena right now, because Bena looks like #2 at SMW. Bivol gotta fight Beter.

For sure.
I would like to see Bena adding one more good win on his resume like Andrade or maybe Morrell bc tbh Bena has only a good win on his resume and thats Plant who is a Canelo's leftover.
Anyway , I'd not mind to see Canelo fighting first Bena and then rematch Bivol. I don't know why but I think Canelo just wants to avenge his loss against Bivol and then maybe unify with Beterbiev to solidify his legacy.
But first lets see how Canelo would deal with Ryder? Maybe Ryder would surprise us?!

Nah, Ryder won't do anything. He had some upsets, but in this case it will be surprising.
