Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr BACK ON with grudge match close to being announced for 3 June
Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr has been revived and is close to being announced for this summer.
The sons of British boxing royalty were set to follow in their fathers’ footsteps and meet in an eagerly-anticipated grudge match last October.
The fight was called off just 48 hours before the opening bell however after it emerged Benn had failed two Vada drug tests.
The welterweight has persistently denied intentionally taking banned substances and has been cleared to fight again – although an ongoing investigation led by the British Boxing Board of Control and UK-Anti-Doping means he cannot fight on British soil.
Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed last month a June return is on the horizon with The Sun now reporting the Eubank Jr fight is back on, scheduled to take place on 3 June in Abu Dhabi.
Last year’s doomed bout was scheduled to be fought at a catchweight of 157lbs, requiring Benn to move up from his regular 147lbs limit and Eubank Jr to come down from 160lbs.
The catchweight was widely criticised, with Eubank Snr angered by the stipulation and calling for the fight to be called off.
Earlier this month, Hearn revealed Benn was willing to change the weight with their summer showdown likely to take place at the middleweight limit of 160lbs.
Benn has not fought since the debacle and is desperate to walk back into a high-profile bout with Manny Pacquiao and Kell Brook also mentioned as possible opponents.
Eubank Jr meanwhile fought Liam Smith in January, stopped for the first time in his career in a damaging defeat.
The Brighton fighter activated a rematch clause to fight Smith again later this year but final confirmation never came.
‘One side is saying Chris has activated his rematch clause,’ Smith said. ‘But the other side is saying he is fighting Benn in Abu Dhabi.
‘I bet as much money he wants, if he does fight Chris next, he will not do him quicker than I did him.’

If this is true, it's obvious that Eubank Jr knows which side his bread is buttered on.
Those McLaren supercars ain't paying for themselves.
Eubank Jr is selling his soul to the Clomiphene Kid who will probably whack him out even quicker than Smith did.

"If the situation remains as it is today then I would think that would be unlikely."

So he has bottled the Smith rematch?
I'm a bit disappointed if he has, that was a terrific fight and I thought the rematch would be even more exciting knowing now that Smith has the power to stop him.
I would have even PAID to watch it!

What would you do if you were him though Kiwi. He knows that regardless of whether he beats Smith or not he doesn’t have it in him to win a world title or to get any real glory out of the sport. He knows he’s past his best. He knows he can get cash out money against a talentless smaller man who this time won’t be juiced up.
As unpalatable as the fight seems to us he’d be daft not to take it

I don't know the money on offer for for each fight. But as a fan I think the Smith rematch is guaranteed entertaining, and redemption or at least trying for redemption gets my respect more than fighting some drug cheat.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑28 Mar 2023, 22:09What would you do if you were him though Kiwi. A Benn fight won't happen. Too many obstacles.

Eubank jr isn't going anywhere legit now. I really don't see any promoters spending big money to get him a world title nowadays.
So a cash out fight makes perfect sense for him. If he wins, but looks fragile again then he may be able to sell himself to Jake Paul next time for even more money.
At this stage of Eubanks career I don't see him too bothered by the BBB of C

The reality is, Jr is going to earn a lot more money taking the Benn fight than he is Smith. I think he's at that stage of his career now that the paydays are more important than trying to win a title or a rematch.

I am annoyed at the whole way the Benn case has been dealt with.
I am unhappy that the “supposed” FACTS have been kept to the chosen few.
Innocent or Guilty … call a press/tv conference to let the public know the FACTS
Re: Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn | DAZN PPV - 3 June 2023
Both Hearn and Benn said they know the facts, then tapped their nose....

Benn had a nice afro then shaved it all off just after the first failed test. FactSpud wrote: ↑29 Mar 2023, 05:59I am annoyed at the whole way the Benn case has been dealt with.

Just watched the Chris jr vid on BBC
Amongst others
Can’t fail to like the guy
Embracing his role as a heel come hero
Knows the game and getting paid
Maybe won’t be a bonafide World Champ but still can have a row and make a few smile too
