I stated in s previous thread I didnt like Ben Shalom.

I was wrong,

The more I see him in interviews the more I like his commitment to British boxing. In addition he is starting to get a decent track record in delivering fights and more still an ever increasing stable of fighters.

No longer will Fr*nk & Eddie get things their own way.

And as far as Eddie is concerned the more Ben & Sky deliver the quicker the nails will be hammered into DAZNs coffin.

Occasional shit show? That was their only U.K. show in March. None are planned for April. Just one in February that was more of a NextGen show.

After 4 months this year we’d have had 2 regular U.K. shows on Sky Sports. I think both were bang average. Also had the PPV which I bought and quite liked altbeit it was a borderline PPV. I don’t remember a time when boxing on Sky sports was as weak as it has been so far this year.

I judge promoters not on what they say or promise. They all talk shit. I judge them on what the deliver and Boxxer haven’t delivered much so far this year.

He's had a few shockers. Smith-Mwakinyo was a disaster as well. I would say he's doing alright, but he's had some serious cock-ups. Catterall signing with Matchroom (as is heavily rumoured) would be one of them; if they hadn't scuppered the Taylor rematch with poor contract drafting that probably wouldn't have happened. So that's one "PPV" that they lost. Looks like they may well lose Eubank-Smith II as well. Not sure why they can't seem to get a title fight at cruiser for one of their fighters.

That being said, I like Ben, seems a nice guy if a little lacking in charisma, willingness to work with other promoters is a big +, building his stable nicely, and these foreign cards he's putting on with other promotions is a nice idea.

I heard that he forgot to book the venue for the original planned December date for Taylor Catterall 2 and I'm not even taking the piss. By the time he realised everywhere was already taken. It was then supposed to be February but Sky didn't want to run 2 PPV cards close together so it again got put back to March, then when Taylor got injured he didn't put a rescheduling date in the contract.

Seems like a nice bloke which is different from every other promoter. Even Eddie was seen as a change from the dinosaurs because of his more entertaining personality but his salesman persona has rubbed people the wrong way, especially with Benn. I'm yet to see Shalom deliver though. Hope he can for the sake of British boxing because Hearn is losing interest in the UK and Frank is way too focused on just Fury these days.

Lol at giving it to Warren, the dross he was serving up was why they got rid of him. I don't think sky should have an exclusivity deal with any promoter tbh, why not sign deals with several British promoters?

When he came on the scene he came across as Dodgy and a Chancer. But he’s growing on me, I like his fresh upbeat attitude. The cards have been average but I think over time with experience they’ll get better.

There’s something very odd about Ben, almost like he’s a robot created in the image of what woke broadcasters would like a promoter to be - inclusive and wholesome and kind and respectable rather than the sell their own grandma for a fiver types we’re used to. He doesn’t seem to have anything about him, no charisma or spiel just a fairly nice fairly dull man stating the obvious on a loop.

By contrast, in spite of all their foibles, the leading promoters are fascinating characters. Love em or loathe em they’re engaging chaps full of chutzpah who command your attention when they speak

Wasn't his last card on normal Sky Murray v Mitchell, Ricky Burns v Nicky Cook (WBO), Bellew v McKenzie (British), Gavin v Woodhouse? And he walked away, couldn't handle the budget cut.

Fwank always did a big UK show leading into a huge US one. Naz into Tyson, etc. A few did those, Maloney did in the Lennox days, Hearn abandoned it. Then again, he hasn't really done many US PPV's with SKY. AJ chasing his American dream.... I can't think of many more. Obviously Fwank had Don King to help but all the big boys in America dislike Hearn.

I also like that we're getting fight nights on Sky Showcase and Sky Sports Mix.

Yeah - it was.

His previous 2 shows on regular Sky Sports before that were John Murray vs El Ouazghai at the York Hall with nothing on the undercard and then Liam Walsh vs Jon Kays for the commonwealth title at the leisure centre in Wigan with nothing on the undercard.

Frank put on some good shows. There was a lot of dross in there too as there was for the all of the promoters then.
