John Conteh vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
John Conteh vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
15,175, prime vs prime, who wins?
Re: John Conteh vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
My analysis is based on the assumption that both guys fight up to the best of their ability, during their respective primes.
I lean toward a Mustafa victory. My guess is that this is 65%/35% in Eddie's favor. It's a tough call, but that's gut instinct.
John was one hell of a technical boxer during his prime, fast and athletic too. Eddie was also a great technical boxer, but perhaps a notch or two below Conteh in that respect. The big difference, IMO, is Eddie's devastating, one punch KO power. Conteh would be vulnerable to that power for as long as the fight lasted.
Conteh would sense Mustafa's power very early, and for that reason, would probably focus on playing it safe. He'd be efficient at scoring points with his jab and combos, for sure. But he'd throw fewer punches than usual, and focus heavily on defense. That would give Mustafa a chance to put his own considerable boxing skill to work, getting the best of it in battle of jabs fought mostly at center ring.
I'll say this one goes the distance, 12 or 15 rounds, whichever it's scheduled for. The scorecards would probably be close.
In the event that Conteh tries to assume the upper-hand by getting aggressive, then he'd be at risk of getting clipped by a Mustafa bomb, resulting in a stoppage victory for Muhammad. But, again, I doubt Conteh would take chances in this fight. Therefore it goes the full route.

Going with Mustafa as well. Conteh would be a live underdog, but would lose more often than not.
Re: John Conteh vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
EMM would counter Conteh with his aggressiveness by jabbing and firing harder left-right combos to take a decision or late round stoppage.

EMM-points.
