This is spectacular. Now, Rugby Union does have an issue in the game, but at international level, are the viewing figures horrendous? And yet people listen to a man who promotes a minority sport.
The English RFU on its own matches the financial turnover of the whole Matchroom Sport operation, and that's before you get into the clubs, and the other UK rfus.
It does make me laugh.
It’s strange isn’t it. Eddie will keep doing this stuff as it gives him a platform to push himself/his shows but it’s surprising that people genuinely think he’ll be able to turn around a troubled sport.
I follow rugby league quite closely and there was talk of Matchroom getting involved with that a while ago. They did a great job with boxing on Sky and an even better job with darts but club rugby would be real tough for someone like Matchroom to materially improve.
The scary thing is that I was amazed by the amount of fans who thought they should just hand over control and governance of domestic rugby league to Matchroom.

It was Barry Hearn who met with Rugby League reps. Eddie just makes the noise. Ive see some notes from the meeting which made for fascinating reading.

Interesting. The only thing I read about their interest in Rugby League was that they wouldn’t do it because they couldn’t have full control. That was just hearsay though.

DAZN are trying to get rights to EFL and end the 3pm broadcast blackout. They can absolutely fvck right off. Hope they go bust asap.
The 3pm blackout will be gone across the divisions next round of deals IMO. Every game broadcast live in the PL and Championship.
When you consider DAZN is more expensive than Netflix / Amazon Prime / Apple Music etc, even when you sign up for 12 months (and twice as expensive if you do it regular monthly) and then you’ve got PPV on top of that, it’s a real pisstake.

Value is only relative to people individually though I think. I probably watch one movie a month on Netflix and pay £11 for it whilst I watch all the boxing on DAZN plus the PFL.
I can’t remember the last time I watched something on Prime either but wouldn’t get rid due to the delivery aspect.
I think if you’re going to watch the bulk of boxing content on DAZN then it’s good value at either £9.99/month or £100 for the year.
They will need deep pockets to get the EFL rights especially as they've split them into packages. DAZN will probably get the bottom package of something like 10 League 2 games on a Tuesday night if they get anything at all

Sky and BT have things in place for the next few years. C Dubios will be coming through as KT is retiring, Azim looks the business, BT can keep the heavyweight titles in house if Fury beats Usyk. I'm pretty sure Eddie will have upset people along the way, too.
Lol you actually believe that womens boxing keeps boxing afloat? Lol
Personally, no, but she’s a box ticker. They’ll be a lot less likely to drop it with a black woman on board. A very good one at that.
If the figures don't add up it does not matter who it is. We have to be honest the interest in boxing diminished years ago. Eddie leaving Sky did not help. That was a huge mistake on his part imo
So not just Tank vs Garcia, but Canelo vs Ryder is also PPV in the U.S. but not in UK. Isn't that interesting? It's a good deal in the UK for Davis Garcia alone.

Tank-Garcia is Showtime PPV.
"The 136lb catchweight bout will be produced and broadcast by Showtime, but also available on DAZN PPV due to Garcia’s link with them through Golden Boy Promotions.
According to veteran boxing journalist, Dan Rafael, the price to view will be $84.99."
(My friend orders every fight and won't let anyone pitch, but I wouldn't do it. I'd rather have a new pair of shoes.)
Recorded Joshua v Franklin and watched it via Sky. Way better interface than the DAZN app. So much easier to whizz through the adverts and promos, of which there seemed more than usual. Maybe they have to recoup the dough they pay to Sky.

Looks like SKY are keeping all the EFL rights so another blow for DAZN, without football they won't increase any numbers of subscribers.
I wonder if DAZN really had any expectation of winning or rather simply used the opportunity to get some publicity for them.
Most people know more about Viaplay/Premier Sports than they do about DAZN in this country.
Either way, like the IPL deal where Sky got what they want and DAZN had to cut their cloth, shows again the comparative size of these players.

Viaplay got the Euro qualifiers as SKY/BT didn't want to pay what was wanted , DAZN could have gone for those. Worse than having no rights for other sports is over paying for them and ending up like Setanta and ITV Digital.
I do not understand Setanta and now DAZN business model…
We have said it time and time again, whilst the core of the most ardent boxing fans love the sport there is simply no where near enough of them to prevent the closing shutters to be locked up.
It has also been stated time and time again boxing in the UK is one them sports used to supplement football channels.
The new football contract is due in 2025 … if Eddie has impressed his paymasters than maybe jyst maybe boxing will survive on DAZN.
Boxing is a massive minority sport the only time it surfaces into people’s minds is when there is a BIG PPV event.
Another FACT for those in denial is professional boxing im this country is not even the largest In boxing!!!…. White Collar Boxing & Misfits have a runaway lead in the rating stakes.
