It’s a backdated ban.

Re: Amir Khan is Banned from all sport for two years over doping rule break
So Shalom came out yesterday and said the first he heard was about it was yesterday through social media and he said he’d spoken to Robert Smith who said the first time he was aware of it was on Monday.
It now appears the board was aware of the failure before but only found out about the ruling on Monday.
This just shows to me how poorly governed our sport is. It’s near 14 months since the test happened. Shalom was supposedly negotiating another fight for Khan and I’m sure others were too.
Why does it take 14 months to come out to reach a verdict and come out? If the board didn’t know until recently then that’s appalling and Shalom should have been told sooner too.
If Khan had the won the fight and the same thing happened then it’d be a much bigger deal.
It shows to me that the board/UKAD aren’t fit for purpose for properly governing drugs in the sport and big changes need to be made quickly.

I believe the delay was due to Khan appealing the result.
We have to be careful here blaming the bodies when its the boxer taking drugs then taking every means to deny it.

I get that but the board saying, through Shalom, they didn’t know about it is disingenuous and Shalom should have been told too.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 03:25 I believe the delay was due to Khan appealing the result.

Also the appeal process shouldn’t take as long. 14 months is ridiculous.
Compared to Benn where Robert Smith is giving interviews about the case before there’s even been a hearing.
I agree the blame should be on the fighters. 100%. However the way both cases have been handled by the board has, on face value, been extremely poor and embarrassing for the sport.
Also take the Dillian Whyte/Rivas fight. Whyte gets told on fight week about a positive UKAD test. They have a meeting straight away and allow the fight and then withdraw the charge several months later. The opponent isn’t even told!
Then you get Liam Cameron who gets 4 years for cocaine.
There doesn’t appear to be any consistency in approach.

Liam Cameron’s biggest crime was not being able to afford an expensive lawyer.

Re: Amir Khan is Banned from all sport for two years over doping rule break
Since the Conor Benn result, UKAD have gone through their entire list of historical sanctions and redacted a lot of names and all of the offending drugs off the sanctions pages, and stopped listing drugs taken for new offenders. Presumably they are thinking it’s sensitive information I suppose. But they just became even less transparent in the process. USADA have certainly not done this and have a far better website. It’s like UKAD are currently quite worried about being sued.maverick23 wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 04:01I get that but the board saying, through Shalom, they didn’t know about it is disingenuous and Shalom should have been told too.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 03:25 I believe the delay was due to Khan appealing the result.

I have to give Khan the benefit of the doubt in this instance after reading the UKAD findings, I don’t know anything about that drug but their own report says it would’ve given no advantage and the microscopic trace was likely not intentional. Why it took so long I don’t know, the whole system needs looking at

What's the likelihood of Khan's excuses being correct?
I don't know a lot about PEDS, but they found tiny amounts, right?
Is it more likely that he was using larger amounts during training and stopped using before competition/testing time? And this accounts for the small amounts he calculated would be non-existant at the time? So the PEDS increased his ability to train and therefore he benefitted that way?

That's what I'd assume but I'm pretty sure Khan passed tests before popping, what a messLenny Cravats wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 04:33 What's the likelihood of Khan's excuses being correct?

I think that’s how it normally goes, the argument with Benn was it masked other things and would normally be out your system in time for testing but from what I can gather Khan passed the same tests beforehand and for that drug to be effective it would’ve been in his system at far higher levels, so the inference being it was so small it wouldn’t have given him any advantage. That’s how I read it anywayLenny Cravats wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 04:33 What's the likelihood of Khan's excuses being correct?

Re: Amir Khan is Banned from all sport for two years over doping rule break
There’s been mention of Khan being tested my multiple agencies in the intensive in-competition run up to the Brook fight. But that was probably only a ten week period. Khan had a huge amount of time being classed as ‘out of competition’ and living abroad. You’d imagine between the Dib fight 12th July 2019 and that ten week run up to the Brook fight on 19th Feb 2022, that Khan could have been running any number of cycles and not been tested. It was probably he felt he was ageing and wanted to stay relevant. He wanted his testosterone levels higher.
I’d go further and suggest part of the reason Khan looked so awful against Brook is because he’d had to go cold turkey to pass drug testing and was fighting with a crashed level of natural testosterone. If anyone reveals he’s prescribed TRT right now, that would seal the deal as far I’m concerned. His natural testosterone might still be really low.

khan vs Brook was announced in November 2021 and they fought Feb 2022, would they start testing as soon as he started camp in November?

I always like the contamination theory when athletes pop for PEDs.Controversial wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 04:55I think that’s how it normally goes, the argument with Benn was it masked other things and would normally be out your system in time for testing but from what I can gather Khan passed the same tests beforehand and for that drug to be effective it would’ve been in his system at far higher levels, so the inference being it was so small it wouldn’t have given him any advantage. Their usual PED of choice is something short acting / easily washed out / undetectable etc but gets contaminated with with a cheaper, Ostarine / nandrolone / Clomifene etc at source.
What can the athletes do? Sue some darknet drug shop?

That’s a good point. Khan may well have been taking a different banned substance but was badly caught out by the fact SARMS are notoriously not what they say they are. I think there was a famous market surveillance study of something like 100 SARM companies and over 50% of the time the tablets contained wildly different dosages to what was advertised, no SARMS at all or a different SARM. For a professional athlete that’s total Russian roulette!Pukka Cheese wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 08:04I always like the contamination theory when athletes pop for PEDs.Controversial wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 04:55I think that’s how it normally goes, the argument with Benn was it masked other things and would normally be out your system in time for testing but from what I can gather Khan passed the same tests beforehand and for that drug to be effective it would’ve been in his system at far higher levels, so the inference being it was so small it wouldn’t have given him any advantage. Contrary to what Dom said you definitely can’t get them on Amazon. SARM online sales companies aren’t regulated, there’s no quality control. It could literally be someone in their garden shed putting these pills together. There’s hardly any studies supporting their use and they’re not passed for human consumption.

The lawyers are winning the day and couple that with injunctions stopping UKAD from going public is also sadly winning the day.
For example I know a player who plays for a top football team has an injunction out stopping the press from going public despite being charged for alledged rape.
The use of injunctions are expensive and top sportsmen makes use of them on a regular basis
