He wasn't, though. Even with extensive amateur coverage on The BBC he was pretty low key for years. Right up to Valuev, really.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Apr 2023, 08:23Him as a boxer or promoter?Spud wrote: ↑03 Apr 2023, 08:20Name one … to the rest of the forum?Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑03 Apr 2023, 07:49 A good promoter is someone who can take a none ticket seller and turn them into one.

As a boxer, he arguably the best self-promoter going.
I think that was the first time Haye’s purse was largely based on PPV buys hence him and Adam Booth really pushing it.mickey1975 wrote: ↑03 Apr 2023, 09:35He wasn't, though. He attracted approximately none to Huddersfield, as I'm sure Spud will confirm.Frostieballs wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 02:25 There can be a difference between being a ticket seller and having a high profile (you can have one without the other).
I always saw Haye as a ‘TV fighter’.
These guys can also attract big numbers to an event (often as they get to the bigger fights) but they aren’t running around shifting the tickets themselves.

As per the question quoted David was
a hideous non ticket seller that was turned into one.
I sold a load of tickets to the squaddies for that fightmickey1975 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 03:14He attracted approximately none to Huddersfield, as I'm sure Spud will confirm.Frostieballs wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 02:25 There can be a difference between being a ticket seller and having a high profile (you can have one without the other).

It was made quite clear to them that if they didn’t make a huge noise they would be jailed on their return to camp.mickey1975 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 04:37And spoiled my night. But now, midway through the five hours we spend in the gym on a Saturday afternoon, I can feel his hurt. I can see it etched across his face as he thinks of the betrayals that have scarred his obsession with boxing. Carl Froch and Tyson Fury belong in the gallery of famous fighters. But they stand apart, too, for they wounded Hennessy by leaving him as world champions after he spent years helping them build their careers to that peak.

I've just looked up his record - the records of his opponents is horrific, he must be a popular lad because I can't believe he would sell 4 tickets to watch that never mind 400mickey1975 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 16:32George is getting one in on May 12th at York Hall for Queensbury as well as Leeds.Floydendizer wrote: ↑02 Apr 2023, 05:49 Yep remember seeing that , George Davey having a strange career shifted 400+ tickets on his debut for allegedly , now 3 years down the line boxing on a small hall show in Leeds , dropped by Queensbury ?
And that is exactly why we go to local shows. The atmosphere is always better when a local lad is on. Standard. Don’t matter. As long as it’s fair.bripez wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 13:40I've just looked up his record - the records of his opponents is horrific, he must be a popular lad because I can't believe he would sell 4 tickets to watch that never mind 400mickey1975 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 16:32George is getting one in on May 12th at York Hall for Queensbury as well as Leeds.Floydendizer wrote: ↑02 Apr 2023, 05:49 Yep remember seeing that , George Davey having a strange career shifted 400+ tickets on his debut for allegedly , now 3 years down the line boxing on a small hall show in Leeds , dropped by Queensbury ?

That guy is a brilliant journalist
Always liked Mick H
I remember David Walker too. Really exciting fighter from just up the road from me. Kid Dynamite.
He’s not really a ticket seller! That number is misleading, he was the first of Henry’s Gym to turn pro so had the whole ‘gym family’ behind him.bripez wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 13:40I've just looked up his record - the records of his opponents is horrific, he must be a popular lad because I can't believe he would sell 4 tickets to watch that never mind 400mickey1975 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 16:32George is getting one in on May 12th at York Hall for Queensbury as well as Leeds.Floydendizer wrote: ↑02 Apr 2023, 05:49 Yep remember seeing that , George Davey having a strange career shifted 400+ tickets on his debut for allegedly , now 3 years down the line boxing on a small hall show in Leeds , dropped by Queensbury ?

Mick H is so passionate about boxing.
I think he has had an undeserved rough time. He built up Tyson & Carl Froch … and just when he could make some decent money on the back of their success they left.
Mick was very straight and if he thought you were a c**t he told you.
Therein was his downfall.

I know David Walker was fast tracked (Jimmy Vincent etc) but do you think the Roman Karmazin bout was too early for him and maybe, just maybe derailed the future. Always thought David was a real entertainer
