For over 20 years boxing forums and social media platforms have become really popular and certainly put the profile of boxing up there with regard’s popularity.

So much so, various forums had been issued legal letters because they had certain boxing promoters running for cover because the voice the forums had.

Certainly in the early years boxing personalities visited the forums and indeed fights were made due to the interaction on the forums.

The buzz within the sport increased massively due
To the forums.

I could go on …

But my question is to you … are forums a thing of the past and are now ineffective with regards their popularity

Are the boxing podcasts and youtube channels the main fans voice within the sport.

There was no social media at the times boxers were on forums. Forums have nowhere near as much impact. I remember David Haye posting on ESB and bigging up ESB in a post fight interview so it was obviously something he was reading regularly. A host of other fighters have been posters. It might actually be a good thread to look back at how many pro fighters posted on forums.

Discussions are generally much better on forums still. (And there's definitely a much better sense of community on a forum too.) Obviously for raw up-to-date information/rumours (albeit often of questionable quality) social media is where it's at

Agree with this. Boxing on social media is casuals just spouting their opinion because they think they should have an opinion on everything. Most of the commenters on boxing journalist's posts are insane and some of the stuff you read when boxing topics are trending is baffling. We might not all agree on forums (which is kind of the point) but the vast majority are more knowledgeable than the vast majority of social media users discussing the topic.

In boxing, social media is akin to opening the door and having a million idiots screaming at you.

EVERYONE is, in some way or level addicted to social media. It’s hard to NOT open the door.

But it’s easy to shut it, bye

That aside, it must be an absolute nightmare having your profession microscopically scrutinised in front of millions every time you go to work.

On average how many of those idiots (not all are, but I’m mass generalising here) have ever stepped into a ring? Yet cast an expert eye and analysis whenever they see something they don’t like? The averages have got to be pretty low.

No fighters pre (let’s say) 2012ish had to deal with this. Lennox, Tyson etc, all the legends had an easy time in comparison!!

I've deleted all social media apart from Instagram (and there's only about 4 photos on there which are all of me and my missus). Utter shite.

Twitter is the worst one. Absolute clowns like Sam Jones, Adam Catterall and Nick Peet just tweeting constant bollocks about boxing 24/7.

I think this captures the issue of forums, social media etc better than most pieces I’ve read.

Forums and twitter now are so binary, everything is black and white, no nuance.

Boxrec is the only thing close to that.

Great to see some of the old boys like Elliot and co getting published, some times mainstream

Spud, for all his foibles (you know we love u really), got some got interviews too.

It’s good to talk about your passions. Not everyone can agree as Boxing is so divisive.

Fair enough. Being involved in an industry you're a big follower in is pretty successful in my eyes, especially when it's as difficult to get access to the upper tier of the industry such as boxing.

I can honestly say, that whilst I was paid generously … I earnt every penny. It gave me a fantastic insight into the good and bad of boxing.

I am glad this forum is a good place still to discuss boxing … “Ruthless” the poster keeps threads ticking along. He has a very good knowledge of the sport and is a credit to boxrec.

Forums are more for the generation that grew up on forums before social media. I don't think many from the boxing world read forums like they use to. Pretty much all the people in the boxing world are on YouTube or Twitter.
