Michael Dokes vs Renaldo Snipes
Michael Dokes vs Renaldo Snipes
15, circa 1983, who wins?
Re: Michael Dokes vs Renaldo Snipes
Dynamite Dokes' speedy jabs and combinations to outbox Snipes to take a decision or stopping him late.
Re: Michael Dokes vs Renaldo Snipes
Of course we'd all agree Dokes would win, assuming both guys fought their best during the respective primes. IMO, Dokes probably takes a clear cut UD, or gets a late round stoppage.
Snipes would have his moments, and possibly drop Dokes. But overall Dynamite was too good for Snipes and would win in the end.
However, this would be an interesting match if - and this is a big "if" - Dynamite had one of his frequent "off days." On those nights, Dokes was hittable. Snipes packed moderate power in his punches. Possibly, if Dynamite is out of it mentally and/or physically, Snipes might score an upset, taking a decision.
I don't know about you guys, but I recall that during 1980 and 1981, Dynamite was sometimes hit and wobbled by guys he should have had an easy time beating. Lumbering Tex Cobb, who was slow as a mudslide, managed to land some thumping lefts and rights that troubled Dynamite. I thought I noticed Lucien Rodriquez stun Dokes a bit with jabs. George Chaplin managed to confuse Dokes and momentarily stun him at times. And of course Jaws Occasio rocked and troubled Dokes in their first bout, gaining a draw on the scorecards.
So, it's important to remember that, even at his best, Dynamite Dokes wasn't necessarily the unbeatable heavyweight his backers claimed.
