Is Usyk really only 30% worth ?

Post by lenny.boxing »

Fury said that 30% is all he gets but is Usyk only worth that little ?
He beat a megastar in joshua back to back and holds 4 titles 3 being major IBO, IBF, WBA and WBO belts all belong to Usyk yet Fury only holds on to the WBC belt, which to be honest doesnt mean that much, they make so many belts. Remeber how Loma was promoted as undisputed but it was haney that held the actual WBC belt and Loma a franchise belt.

In terms of accomplishments and standing we know he's worth at least 50% - undisputed at cruiser, three-belt unified HW champion.

Commercially, which is (rightly or wrongly) of more relevance to the %, it's a bit more difficult - he has got recognition, primarily from the Joshua fights, but it probably wouldn't be wrong for Fury to suggest he's bringing in the majority of the viewership (whether that be 60/40 or 65/35). I mean I think it'd be a fair suggestion that Fury-Joyce, for instance, would outperform Usyk-Joyce both at the gate and in PPV numbers.

Obviously not condoning Fury's behaviour, it's pretty evident to many he's ducking the fight. Usyk played a blinder accepting 70/30 and Fury now is a laughing stock amongst the public, but you can see his (commercial) argument.

Fury did us all a favor when he put an end to the Joshua vs Wilder (or not) pantomime. Now we have another non-event with Usyk. There’s boxing for you.

That's up to Usyk. If he's willing to sign the contract and take the 30%, which I don't doubt he might. Then good on him.

I don't think Usyk would ever be the attention getting draw that Tyson Fury is, but he's definitely the most technically skilled fighter at Heavyweight right now, and one of the most skilled in the sport.

Not sure how much longer his body will hold up though as he's had quite a few injuries.

Honestly, even 30% might be pushing it if we're talking pure fandom. I'm an Usyk fan, but this is a business more than a sport, and Usyk doesn't draw flies.

The thing is Fury isn't much of a draw himself, though. He'd be worth 30% to Joshua if we're talking about the undefeated Joshua.

Have you tried looking into how much money they actually draw per fight? Usyk made $4.2 million the first time he fought Joshua. 3 million euros + 40% of the ppv for the rematch, 4 million euros against Chisora.

Fury made $30 million against Whyte, $33 million for Chisora 3, $30 million in Wilder 3, $25 million in Wilder 2.

Fury simply has like 4-7 times as much drawing power. If they fight, he would be responsible for like 75-85% of the money that gets generated. Plus, if it's an actual dangerous fight like so many are alleging, then that certainly wouldn't work in Usyk's favor as far as purse splits go.

Of course Usyk is worth more than 30%.

Boxing should be honoured to have one of its best champions ever.

The name Oleksandr Usyk can proudly stand alongside any of the great champions of the past.

It's also quite normal practice in every other sport for the winner to receive more than the loser.

Therefore it's fairly safe to conclude that boxing is not a real sport.

Especially not at its highest levels.

So what is it then?

A racket?

A business?

Entertainment?

A criminal enterprise?

A circus?

Or perhaps it's a little of all of these things.

He’s worth more than 30 percent - but that doesn’t matter because he took 30 percent.

Fury had no intention of fighting him. Classic ducking

Of course he is.

Fury only offered that thinking there was no chance that Uysk would accept, and then shit himself when Uysk did. He then moved the goal posts again. And would have kept on moving them with more and more ridiculous demands.

He clearly didn't want the fight. Most shameless duck in boxing history.

You are worth what you settle for. Or maybe another way to look at it is you are worth what you are willing to take. A lot of people saw Usyk taking the 30% as him being a blood and guts warrior, but I initially saw it as him being the 1st man to cave.

Personally I think the 2 men are so much bigger than the division at the moment that they would be better off getting their own individual deals to make the fight happen because any kind of purse split or any kind of rematch clause, etc will only cause the bout to fall through because both men see themselves as $100 million dollar fighters.

It could very well be the richest fight of all time but I'm reminded of a time in boxing when $10 million dollar purses were considered excellent. People can argue for inflation but the fact is people are outpricing themselves to the detriment of not only the sport but their own detriment because so much time is passing by that their prime is evaporating rapidly.

Yes of course he was, as others said above, but it was the day before the WBA deadline when Fury finally came out of hiding and said 30% take it or leave it.

So Usyk took it. On stippulation Fury paid £1m to Ukraine. Suddenly Fury doesn't want to be political. Lol
Fury then moved the goal posts again and again.

This guy sums it up quite nicely:

I remember when Tyson Fury said he wasn't bothered about money.🙄

It's always people like him who have loads of money who say shyte like that, then usually disprove their words by their actions.

He was quite funny when he was making his way up.

Most of his fights were televised in the UK back then on ITV.

He was quirky funny and endlessly self promoting.

He was like a comedy boxer, he even punched himself in the face once and there was absolutely no sign of any real potential.

It was just a question of when he would get found out.

Well, here we are years later, and the Fury family have £millions and millions stashed away and perhaps the real joke is on those of us who believed anything he said back then.

We can't blame Usyk for doing everything he could to make this fight. Fury avoided David Price, he avoided the rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, he avoided the fight Anthony Joshua and now he's avoiding the biggest fight in boxing because he doesn't consider it a risk worth taking.

He's no fool.

Of course he’s not. Fury the king of greediness just performed the biggest duck in boxing since Riddick Bowe.

Fury with the Worst duck since Bowe

- Blubbereth #1 p4p lineal ducker in history

1. Wlad rematch after being busted after the fact for PEDs and placed on suspension and went off the rails for 3 years.

2. AJ American Debut where Blubbereth headed the ducking of AJ after the FAIL of Big Baby followed by Deyonce, Kownacki, Whyte, Pulev, and Ortiz. Pulev at least manned up after AJ pitched a shutout with the Fat Andy rematch.

3. Blubberth then Ducked the $150 mil 50/50 split Saudi Vs AJ offer that Hearn moved heaven and hell putting together to fight Deyonce for peanuts. Then ducked AJ and Usyk consecutively now stewing his soiled forever shorts.

Fat Andy a self identified Mexican born in America the only MAN among low testa count boys deserves all the credit, forever ranked above the rest of these light in the loafers pack.

Usyk top dog now may only be worth 30% in England, but easily 60-70% in Saudi Arabia where he can make substantial bank vs Hrgovic, Zhang, Wallin, fighters willing to step up to the scratch line that savvy Saudis wanting class would like to see.

Usyk then retires as one of the top p4p undisputed heavies ever...The End...
