I do not understand Setanta and now DAZN business model…

We have said it time and time again, whilst the core of the most ardent boxing fans love the sport there is simply no where near enough of them to prevent the closing shutters to be locked up.

It has also been stated time and time again boxing in the UK is one them sports used to supplement football channels.

The new football contract is due in 2025 … if Eddie has impressed his paymasters than maybe jyst maybe boxing will survive on DAZN.

Setanta had football, horse racing and other sports and still couldn't make it work. If Blavatnik withdraws his funding DAZN will be gone , depends how long he's prepared to keep it going or it turns a profit

You talk as though DAZN is just a U.K. boxing channel. It’s a global sports platform. I’d imagine their spend on boxing in the U.K. is a drop in the ocean compared to some of their other tv rights packages.

We’re still in a crazy world whereby a business can lose loads of money but still be worth enough to make the founder/investors money. That’s their goal with DAZN. They’ll be going after other rights packages in the US and U.K. but boxing isn’t make or break for them at all.

Yes Setanta was trying to do a skysports model. Even had a news channel.

I’d be surprised if they fully withdraw from the US. I wouldn’t imagine their losses are big over there.

Matchroom and DAZN have announced a three-year extension to their broadcast deals in the USA and Mexico.

Matchroom held their first event live on DAZN in October 2018 when Jessie Vargas took on Thomas Dulorme in Chicago, and since that night in the Windy City, President Eddie Hearn has teamed up with the streaming service to put on over 50 events in America and Mexico.

The first Mexico night took place in February 2019 when Humberto Soto defeated Brandon Rios in Tijuana, and Hearn has hosted seven more thrilling nights in the country and Matchroom’s latest event saw World-rated Lightweight Angel Fierro stop Eduardo Estela in Culiacan to move closer to World title action.

Matchroom are staking their position in Mexico after Mauricio Lara joined Juan Francisco Estrada and Julio Cesar Martinez as World champions from the boxing hotbed with his stunning KO win over Leigh Wood in Nottingham, England to become WBA Featherweight ruler, as they meet in a rematch in Manchester, England in May.

Matchroom kicked off 2023 in America with a double-header of Undisputed World title action in New York that saw Amanda Serrano and Alycia Baumgardner crowned the undisputed rulers at Featherweight and Super-Featherweight respectively and San Antonio had it’s first two-weight World champion in April, as Jesse Rodriguez bravely boxed on with a broken jaw to add the WBO Flyweight crown to the Super-Flyweight strap he won and defended in style in 2022.

The action continues in May as Canelo Alvarez defends his undisputed Super-Middleweight crown against and John Ryder in what promises to be a spectacular homecoming for the Mexican hero in Guadalajara on Cinco de Mayo weekend. The next action in America sees Hearn’s newest signing in action as Super-Middleweight star Edgar Berlanga faces Jason Quigley in New York in June.

2 really good signings yesterday. I’ve always enjoyed watching Prograis and thought he was unlucky against Taylor.

The signing of Andy Cruz is an interesting one. Could be an excellent signing but we’ve also seen many Cubans turn over and struggle partly due to having a lot of money for the first time and no longer having the same drive and focus.

DAZN UK is mainly crap but that’s a reflection on British boxing right now rather than DAZN it self. The undercards in particular on their American and Mexican shows are brilliant. Always some hidden gems of fights.

They will need to move him quickly. Presumably, try and create some buzz for him in Florida.

Matchroom have basically had to rebuild their US stable which was pretty much dead early this year, in order to do 8 or so shows a year going forward.

Same, and since that fight Reggie has had some real spite in his work. In some ways the loss was good for him if only he could have a rematch he would fold Taylor in half.
The only downer is that he is 34 which is old for a SLW, and we may have seen his peak already.
