Virgil Hill vs Billy Conn

Post by AngryGoon38 »

This hypo popped into my ole brain while at work today.

I was obviously focused on thinking in terms of idealistic Light heavyweight Hypos.

It'd be very interesting I think, because both boxers obviously had amazing strengths/attributes, but also unfortunately had a fatal flaw/flaws.

With Conn it was overzealousness. Basically more precisely, Impatience.
Inability at times to stick with a game-plan that's working well, for the sake of desiring to land more punches, and
Maybe get a Very nice gratifying Ko Win. Obvious example is the 1941 Joe Louis bout, getting Ko'd in the 13th round.
Conn was ahead on all 3 cards after the 12th round. He then decided to go for the Ko in that 13th round.
When asked in an interview, why he got completely off-track, in favor of all out aggression, Conn simply stated,..
"What's the point in being Irish if you can't get Stupid..?!"

With Hill it was kind of similar, ultimately, versus the very upper-tier level.(Examples-Hearns and Jones Jr).
I remember in the Hearns bout, back in 91, watching that one with my Late Dad(Who was a Big Virgil Hill fan).
He just couldn't understand why Hill wasn't using his usual elusive based skillset attributes in that bout.
I personally think that Hill was probably Tense and therefore his body became basically more Wooden than Elusive.
He was obviously very over-cautious and paranoid versus Hearns.

Now therefore, with this hypo, We'd have something that's certainly extremely interesting but also A good bit unpredictable.
One would have the other's number, or they'd both have one another's number and therefore it'd be an incredible Chess-Match type of Technical based Bout, rather than some random aggressive Brawler Scrap.
The Sweet Science would be exhibited in this one, by both imo.
If the version of Conn in "Louis-Conn I" was in there, I'd have to say that Billy probably takes it. Only narrowly though. 6-5-1 most likely.

Joe Louis probably had an off night in they're first bout. He Ko'd Conn in the 8th round of they're 1946 rematch.
Hill would probably win the rematch, if they had a rematch clause.
Conn had one of those Very Flukey and Very Short Primes.
He was very awkward with his style. And Very Elusive during his Very Brief Prime.

Conn would outjab and outbox the Quick Silver behind his jabs and combinations to take a decision.
