It didn't "happen" and the more I've seen of those footages the more staged it looks. There's something almost humorous about Ali's body language....like he's letting us in on the joke.

He looks in control and Marciano looks like he's givin it all he's got. I don't think this holds up well as time goes by because it has a real air of artificiality which of course makes sense since it is artificial.

I posted that same video clip in the MODERN DAY ALL TIME HEAVYWEIGHT tournament I run a while back. I will say this, that there was eyewitnesses that said Marciano did drop Ali to the canvas with a body shot after Ali knocked Marciano's wig off a few times---but after the incident happened they stopped filming, and of course it was not in the script as the NCR-315 computer said, so they edited that part out and after the "SUPERFIGHT" was shown, all film, even the stuff on the cutting room floor, was destroyed except for one copy.

So if it did exist...it no longer does. Only the remaining men who are alive today [Pacheco/Ali/Dundee] can say whether it happened or not. Ali will only admit that Marciano was hard to hit and was a hard punching man who bruised his body and elbows and had to take some time off. Dundee seems to only recall Marciano being pissed off and challenging Ali right then and there to a real fight. And Pacheco claims that Ali was dropped by a body shot.

No...no...Ali was never dropped. I refuse to accept it. I do have the fight on DVD and when I watched it I wanted to burn it.

"i cant believe how strong and how hard rocky can hit". marciano was lot harder to hit with a jab than he looked. I can feel how great Marciano must have been just from being in the ring with him when he was 46 years old. I can't even imagine what Rocky must have been like in his prime"- Muhammad Ali

"Clay is the sugar ray robinson of the heavyweight division"- Rocky Marciano

what you dont like marciano?? ali probably was dropped but it was from a hard punch from marciano with ali not flexing and not expecting it.....those are the shots that get you......not to mention ali was way out of shape. i certainly dont count it as a bonus to marcianos legacy
No way do i dislike Marciano. I think of him as one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time, in fact I think he was the smartest of them all with the way he went out on top. It's just I don't like seeing Ali fall...don't know why, I just don't.

computer fight

Even this was a computer fight, I think Rocky moved well enough for an older fighter. The computer fight consisted of 70 or so takes of one minute rounds.

I always thought Ali would have been much bigger than Marciano but looking at this clip it seems there aint too much of a difference. I think Marciano would have beaten Ali .. when he moves this well in his 50-s. Even as it was staged I doubt Ali could have avoided Marciano.. no way in hell. That defenetely gives an all new percpective on the golden age of the HW-s scene back in 1960-70.

This is mostly BS.
He is twisting Pacheco's version and saying other things that aren't true. I went into more detail on the Modern Day All-Time Heavyweight Tournament thread.
