Kenneth Egano, 22, Passes Away From Injuries Suffered on Pacquiao Card

22-year-old Filipino bantamweight prospect Kenneth Egano (7-1, 3 KOs) passed away from injuries suffered during his eight round decision win over Jason Facularin on May 6 at the Imus Sports Gymnasium in Imus, Cavite, Philippines.

The fight card was promoted by eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

Egano collapsed in his corner while waiting for the scorecards to be tallied. He was rushed away on a stretcher and taken to Imus Doctors Hospital.

He was immediately placed into a coma and it was revealed that he had suffered a brain hemorrhage.

The contest was part of Pacquiao's Blow by Blow series, which is televised in the Philippines.

Earlier in the week, Pacquiao had pledged to pay for all of Egano's medical bills.

After his passing was revealed on Wednesday, Pacquiao paid tribute to the young fighter.

"There is nothing more precious than human life,' Pacquiao said. "Boxing is truly a dangerous sport and the boxers deserve nothing but respect as they put their lives on the line. Other sports you play, but you don’t play boxing."

The Philippines' Games and Amusements Board also sent their condolences.

"The entire agency of Games and Amusements Board (GAB) mourns the passing of professional boxer Kenneth Egano,' they wrote. "Our condolences to Kenneth's family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace."

Facularin took to social media to express his shock over Egano's tragic passing.

"I didn’t expect that this will happen when we did our best," Jason Facularin wrote. 'Why did it happen to us? “Sorry that it happened. I hope you’re in a good place."

Crap! I really hate to hear of severe injuries and deaths in the ring. Especially when the fighter is so young.

Tragic. Can't imagine how his family is.

RIP young warrior.

RIP brave young man.

A further reminder that you don't have to be KOed to suffer fatal injuries in the ring. Nor do you even necessarily need to lose the fight.
