Hi Everybody- very random narrow question to follow:
I always try to capture the rankings of top-50 fighters right before they fight, but I was a bit late doing so this week, and the Ellis Zorro-Hosea Burton fight had already happened by the time I looked. The rankings update more or less immediately, and Zorro is showing up at #25 right now. It says he's up 3 spots in the latest rankings (implying he'd been #28 before that), but I've seldom if ever found that to match the prior rankings when I've been able to compare apples to apples.
The Wayback Machine doesn't have any snapshots of his profile since 2020. Apparently Friday's fight didn't make it into the main page's list of upcoming fights that were archived there, either. My list of fights and the rankings of the fighters have never included Zorro before, which tells me he wasn't in the top 50 at any point prior to his most recent prior fight against Dec Spellman. I did capture a snapshot of the rankings as of 6-22-22 (between the Spellman fight and the one before that), and he was ranked #91 at that time. I'm not sure if a fairly close points win over Spelman followed by 7 months off would have earned him a 41+ rung promotion given that Spelman was not in the top 100 on 6-22-22.
I'm not sure why anyone would know his ranking prior to this fight unless they compile lists the way my OCD brain forces me to do, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
Was Ellis Zorro Top-50 Ranked Before today?

Awesome, thank you!

Does seem slightly bizarre he's gone up that high, might be based somewhat on Burton's past because he was a reasonable domestic level fighter at 175, done absolutely nothing at cruiser though.
Spelman and Burton are two reasonable wins (albeit neither had done anything at cruiser) but definitely not something I'd say puts you top 30 in the world. Cruiser's pretty sparse though, Lawal's 24th off one decent win that wasn't a 3-rounder.
