Yeah he would join Shields but it's a little different dropping down to a weight you never fought at, than trying to capture the belts above you like Canelo was attempting at 175. Canelo Benavidez is the fight that I want. I just don't know if the golden goose arrives at your door, that you should send him away lol!

Sulaiman Says WBC Will Not Sanction Canelo-Bivol Title Fight at 168
World Boxing Council Mauricio Sulaiman indicates that his organization will not sanction a possible fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol at 168-pounds.
A few weeks ago, Sulaiman made it known that the WBC would refuse to sanction a unification fight between Bivol and WBC, IBF, WBO champion Artur Beterbiev.
Sulaiman and the WBC is taking hard line, due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Until the military conflict is resolved, the WBC will not sanction any fights involving boxers from Russia or Belarus.
In May of 2022, Bivol retained his WBA light heavyweight title by outboxing Canelo over twelve rounds to secure a dominant unanimous decision win.
Canelo wants the rematch to take place at 175-pounds for the WBA strap - but Bivol would like to head down to 168 to challenge the Mexican star for his undisputed championship, which includes the WBC belt.
In order to fight for a WBC title, a fighter from Russia or Belarus must submit a special application to plead their case for review and there is no guarantee that the organization will approve the fight.
“No, not at this moment”, Sulaiman replied to Izquierdazo when asked if the WBC would sanction a fight between Canelo and Bivol at 168 pounds.
“Our definition was clear. It is a constant and consistent position. Bivol has not approached the process that we opened for all those boxers willing to apply for their specific case to be reviewed. Bivol has not done it. So for the moment, Bivol cannot participate in a WBC sanctioned fight.
Last Monday, there were images circulating about an amateur boxing tournament celebrated in an underground subway station in Kharkiv, a city in eastern Ukraine which has been on the front-line of the war.
“It is quite dramatic, but such is sport”, Sulaiman expressed. “The necessity to practice boxing, to be active, to let go of what they have inside. God willing there will be peace, it won’t be soon, but miracles happen”.

First it was Bert-Bivol and now this..
He probably create a "peace" belt which ONLY Canelo can win.

Eddie Hearn On WBC Blocking Canelo Vs. Bivol Undisputed Fight At 168: “It Doesn’t Matter”
“I have a lot of respect for Mauricio [Sulaiman]. I don’t always agree with everything everybody always does, of course. I don’t like it, and maybe it’s because I know Dmitry and I admire, and I’m friends with him,” said Eddie Hearn when asked about his thoughts on WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman saying this week that he won’t sanction a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol for the WBC’s belt at 168 due to the sanctioning bodies ban of sanctioning fights involving Russian athletes.
“For us and for Canelo, he wants that rematch at 175 anyway, which is for Dmitry’s WBA [light heavyweight] title. So it really doesn’t matter, but it does make it a bigger problem making the undisputed fight at 168.
“I don’t see why a fighter like that with a heart like that, such a peaceful individual, should be punished for actions completely out of his control. I get it at the same time, and there are a lot of sports that have done it,” said Hearn.

Of course it's entirely natural that the better off owned slaves would line up behind their Globalist masters.
Heck, even some of the poorer ones would happily pay for their neverending wars with blood and kind.
They can, they do, and they never learn.
After all, the masters are all powerful. They own everything from the International Slavery Banks, to the disposable politicians (many of whom are little more than installed puppets - isn't that right Mr Biden? Mr Sunak?), to the media, and to big pharma and its bio weapons.
Mr canny Mr Sulaiman has always known which side his bread is buttered on.
I just wish he didn't have to be so eager all the time.
Please, please put your tongue away Mauricio, there'll be plenty of time for that later.

maybe somebody with deeper insight could enlighten me?
what did bivol do to deserve any 'sanctioning' or punishment?
he's a russian. got a russian passport i guess and is born there. okay, and?
where's the offense that would justify any sanction whatsoever towards an professional athlete who simply did nothing wrong whatsoever?

Dmitry Bivol's father was born in Soviet Moldova while his mother is an ethnic Korean born in Soviet Kazakhstan.[13][14][15] Dmitry's parents moved to Soviet Kyrgyzstan after graduating and marrying.[16] Dmitry was born and raised in Kyrgyzstan until the age of 11, when he moved to Saint Petersburg, Russia.[17][18]

Sulaiman is more protective of Canelo's 168 pound belts than Canelo is.

Don't bother with what Suleyman said. He says these cheap words bc this fight is gonna be at 175 anyway.
If the big huncho Canelo would want to fight Khabib in Moscow or Sankt Peterburg at 168 lbs and put his wbc title on the line in a big money fight, I doubt that Suleyman would not make a special exception to sanction the fight to get that big fee and even more, make a commemorative huncho belt for this fight. lol

Dmitry Bivol Set To Move On From Canelo Rematch: “His Demands Are Stupid”
Talks for a rematch between Dmitry Bivol and Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez seem to have reached a stalemate that will force both men in different directions.
Canelo moved up to light heavyweight to challenge for Bivol’s WBA world title back in May of 2022. The Russian handily beat the Mexican over twelve rounds in a performance that would contribute to his Fighter of the Year tag.
It’s long been known that Canelo fancies running it back, and both men are now free from mandatories for the time-being.
However, a constant sticking point has been the weight class in which it will take place. Bivol has said he’s keen to win more titles, so would like to move down to super middleweight for a crack at Canelo’s undisputed titles.
Canelo, however, wants the same terms. 175lbs and Bivol’s belt.
Whilst negotiations are apparently ongoing, Bivol’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, told ESPN Knockout that it would not happen on Canelo’s terms. He went on to say that their target was the other light-heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev.
“They don’t want a rematch. They know that they lost very badly in the first fight and that they have less chances of winning in the second. When have you heard of a fighter who, after losing, asked for a rematch on the same terms?”
“In my opinion I think they don’t want a rematch and they are saying that to justify themselves and make another fight like they did with Golovkin, John Ryder and maybe Berlanga. A rematch cannot take place on the same terms as the fight you lost. It’s stupid. We are looking forward. Artur Beterbiev is our target”
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently told Boxing Social that he was still working with all involved to make the rematch for the second half of the year, but Canelo has shown no signs of backing down on the weight dispute.
Bivol has faced some issues outside of the ring that may hamper his title ambitions regardless of who he fights, with the WBC upholding a ban on Russian fighters competing for their belts.
It means a fight with Beterbiev – who is also Russia but has Canadian citizenship – wouldn’t be for all four belts, and that would be the same with Canelo should the rematch happen at super middle.

Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
Reading that Canelo is only prepared for Bivol to receive the same amount for the rematch as he received for their first bout and says 'take it or leave it.' Funny that at the same, Canelo is preaching legacy and saying it is not about the money.
Canelo seems to also be pretending Bivol needs the rematch more than he does. But what about your legacy Canelo? Are you happy to have the loss against Bivol on your record unavenged? I doubt it.

Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
To me offering the same for a rematch where you absolutely got your ass kicked is like saying you don't want the fight. Bivol's team is right, it is stupid. Reporters need to grow a pair and call Canelo out on this bs.
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
Bivol should be fighting Beterbiev. That should be one of the biggest fights in boxing. To hell with the WBC.

“I am not sure if Canelo actually wants the fight,” Kornilov told WBN. “We heard many times that he does want to avenge his loss, but if everything goes well with rehab, Bivol should be ready to fight in the first quarter of next year.”

Canelo says Bivol Rivalry Not fully Closed
Bivol handed Alvarez his first loss in eight-plus years in 2022, retaining his WBA 175-pound title by a close, but clear decision. Then they went their separate ways, Bivol ultimately becoming undisputed light heavyweight champion and Alvarez dropping back down to 168.
Alvarez doesn't believe their rivalry is necessarily over, however.
“No,” Alvarez told The Ring’s Rick Reeno on the Mr. Verzace Podcast when asked whether the door is closed to another meeting with his conqueror.
When might it happen? That's anyone's guess.
Bivol is coming off back-to-back fights against another rival, Artur Beterbiev, losing the first bout and a chance to become undisputed champion by a split decision and then winning the second fight, also by a majority decision, to realize his goal.
The Russian then had successful back surgery, from which he is still recovering. He expects to face IBF mandatory challenger Michael Eifert sometime in the spring. After that, he could restart negotiations with Beterbiev on a rubber match, turn to Alvarez or, of course, go another direction.
Meanwhile, Alvarez is looking to bounce back after a unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford that cost him his super middleweight titles in September. He won't face Bivol in his comeback fight, but he sees a rematch as a viable option down the road.
“Why not? We’ll see in the future. If it makes sense, why not? I always like challenges,” Alvarez said. “So why not? Maybe.”

I'm not an expert, but that doesn't sound really confident.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026, 18:42 “Why not? We’ll see in the future. If it makes sense, why not? I always like challenges,” Alvarez said. “So why not? Maybe.”
His only chance is the judges. That's it.
Both Bivol and Bud won at least 10 rounds each, and they STILL almost got robbed. This sh!t isn't even funny.
With his solid chin and the judges on his side he should be undefeatable.
If I was Bivol, I wouldn't take this fight. He can get some nice paydays with the Saudis as well and doesn't have to fear being down 4-5 rounds before the fight even started..

I don't remember Canelo phrasing it like that, but Bivol definitely said he wants this fight at SMW (because of the titles) and Canelo said he wants it at LHW.
Now at least that leverage is gone.
