Why are "RTD"s counted as KO's on Professional Records, but not counted as KO's on Amateur Records?

Post by MikeKnight »

I noticed that RTD or corner retirements are not listed ast KO's in the amateur records on Boxrec, but in boxing they are considered "stoppages"...I am wondering why they aren't considered KO's. I noticed in the pro records on Boxrec, the RTDs are considered KO's. Check Sonny Liston's record. His first loss to Ali is counted as a KO against him, when he quit in the corner.
Ali's RTD loss against Larry Holmes is also counted as a KO loss in his record too. Frazier's RTD loss against Ali in their 3rd fight is also counted as a KO loss on Frazier's record. RTD's aren't counted as KO's in the amateur records on Boxrec however.
The same thing with DQs...The fight is STOPPED...because a competitor is disqualified...I am thinking it is also a "stoppage", and stoppages are classified as KOs.
Just some thoughts. It looks like the Pro records and Amateur records have a different set of criteria.

What examples are there of amateur records where they are not counted as KOs Mike?

Okay, my mistake. I checked now and see that RTD's are counted as KO's on amateur records too. I guess that would leave "DQ'"'s not being counted as stoppages. I noticed that. Carl Williams and Michael Arms both got DQ'd against Bennie Heard and they aren't counted as KO's in their amateur fights. However, DQ's aren't counted as KO's on the pro records either. So they are the same in that regard. That answered my questions. Thanks.
