Round-by-Round: Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Michael Conlan | BT Sport - 27 May 2023
Re: Round-by-Round: Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Michael Conlan | BT Sport - 27 May 2023
In the bigger picture, second tier is like European champ standard, it's hardly an insult if you're not good enough to be world champ
Re: Round-by-Round: Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Michael Conlan | BT Sport - 27 May 2023
but kiwi why does that mean 2 rate because he loses close fights to top fighters mate, yes if he was a long way of wining that fight ok but he wasn't he will win that rematch he shouldn't of lostKiwiRider wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 19:21Well, if Wood and Lopez knocked him out, Lara and Figueroa definitely would. So second tier, but proven to be there.brilo33 wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 19:01crazy talk conlan is a fantastic boxerLes Norton wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 17:49 The myth of Michael Conlan is exposed again.

He didn’t lose close fights though.
The Wood fight maybe. Got KO’d outta the ring in the end.
This fight, he started off well just 2 rounds. After that he looked like he was waiting to be KO’d.
Lopez gave him no chance.
The angles.
He took some decent shots of Conlan.

Lopez, Lara and Figueroa all can carry power late. That's why I figure Conlan as proven second tier. Nothing to be ashamed of, and he is proven, twice now. I admire his ethic after the Wood loss, that was as brutal a KO as they get. Since then he has had real spite in his work, admiral stuff, but he can't change out his chin.

lopez ktfo him in 5 rounds, it wasnt some razor thin loss. conlin wins a rematch? no way, he cant take the heat well enough clearly
conlin's not bad at all, but clearly not top level, hence the 2 brutal ko losses

that's a fair enough kiwi man i respect you big time , and i agree he mike has to win to night to get back in the elite of division tonight, just i dont think there is that much between themKiwiRider wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 19:35Lopez, Lara and Figueroa all can carry power late. Lopez has Naseem Hamed vibes.

For sure it's doable. I just watched Leigh Wood pull off an almost perfect 12 rounds to the guy who brutally knocked him out last time. And not only that, Lara came in nearly a division heavierbrilo33 wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 19:40that's a fair enough kiwi man i respect you big time , and i agree he mike has to win to night to get back in the elite of division tonight, just i dont think there is that much between themKiwiRider wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 19:35Lopez, Lara and Figueroa all can carry power late. So Conlan definitely has the skill set, but one solid punch... And Wood took a couple of those tonight.

But I still would have given Wood the edge in the rematch - knowing he could take all of Conlan's shots, and still stop him is a huge confidence to go in with.

Monster KO by Lopez, that same right uppercut that rocked Conlan earlier in the fight, Conlan elected to trade and fight aggressively and he won a couple rounds, landed some eye catching shots but Lopez was landing harder punches, lunges in like a novice but still gets purchase on his punches, Conlan showed serious stones to try fight back and sat down on his shots but that KO in the 5th was a sleeper, continue to be impressed by Lopez

handsofstone your man who has seen loads a fights do you think conlan left it to late to turn pro , i think amutures really want to be going pro by 26 agehandsofstone wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 21:03 Monster KO by Lopez, that same right uppercut that rocked Conlan earlier in the fight, Conlan elected to trade and fight aggressively and he won a couple rounds, landed some eye catching shots but Lopez was landing harder punches, lunges in like a novice but still gets purchase on his punches, Conlan showed serious stones to try fight back and sat down on his shots but that KO in the 5th was a sleeper, continue to be impressed by Lopez
Re: Round-by-Round: Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Michael Conlan | BT Sport - 27 May 2023
I think Conlan’s big chance was against Wood but he put too much into trying to stop him after the early rounds & had nothing left by the late rounds & ultimately got knocked out as much as a result of been exhausted then the power of the shot.
I can’t see a way that he could’ve won last night. With the pace Lopez was fighting at & how little effect Conlan’s shots were having on him made Conlan fight for every second of every round. I don’t think there’s anything he could’ve done to win that fight. Lopes looks almost superhuman. Eats flush shots for fun & just keeps coming.

I'm no really sure Brilo, I couldn't even tell you how old Conlan is, it's like he's all of a sudden found that exciting fan friendly style but it's at world level and he's vulnerablebrilo33 wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 21:09handsofstone your man who has seen loads a fights do you think conlan left it to late to turn pro , i think amutures really want to be going pro by 26 agehandsofstone wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 21:03 Monster KO by Lopez, that same right uppercut that rocked Conlan earlier in the fight, Conlan elected to trade and fight aggressively and he won a couple rounds, landed some eye catching shots but Lopez was landing harder punches, lunges in like a novice but still gets purchase on his punches, Conlan showed serious stones to try fight back and sat down on his shots but that KO in the 5th was a sleeper, continue to be impressed by Lopez

His brother fought the same way, took a lot of big shots.
Re: Round-by-Round: Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Michael Conlan | BT Sport - 27 May 2023
I thought the fight was class while it lasted. Quality boxing!
I found Conlan up to the Wood fight underwhelming and a bit boring to watch and thought he'd bore his way to a world title one day.
But against Wood and Lopez he's seemed to take more risks and the fights have been great spectacles but horrific endings for him.

Conlan has very good basics, accurate and fast, but defensively he eats too much leather, doesn't hit hard enough and I think his engine is suspect for his style.
Typical Booth trained fighter.

Just caught up. Conlan is maybe the greatest example ever of a good Am not making a good pro. He’s got the foot movement, the switching, the speed and the boxing brain. He doesn’t have the chin or a 12 round gas tank or the power.
Lopez throws every dig like superman, them crazy lunges look as if they should have nothing on them but they were clearly powerful. The way he dives makes it difficult to time him on the way in and that’s one of the reasons Conlan’s counters weren’t doing as much as they should have.
Wood Lopez next please, I’d buy a ticket for that wherever it is
