I actually think Taylor should retire. He's clearly on the decline. I doubt he'll have much success at WW either.

Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
I saw all the 'experts' picking Taylor and stuck with Lopez. Impressive win that and after his poor showings against Catterall and now Lopez, Taylor needs a rethink.
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
agreed-WW ain't for Taylor. Too much talent up there.
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
Scored it 116-112 Lopez.
Thought Taylor only won three rounds clearly, 1, 7 & 10.
I also gave him 2 but wouldn’t have an issue with anyone giving it to Lopez.
I don’t know what to think anymore. Apparently he can’t run anymore & swims instead which might be why he doesn’t have the gears he used to have.
All the intensity seems to be gone & he’s a million miles off been the Taylor who fought Prograis.

Well he ain't winning the rematch if he asks for it, and if he does, Lopez stops him. Prograis would also muller him and I really don't think he can win a rematch with Catterall either. So really there isn't anywhere for him to go.

Woke up at 6 to read about the result fully expecting a clear Taylor win, shocked really but if he can't even run in training he must have major problems. Time to knock it on the head clearly, he can't move up to WW surely? The division is full of killers.
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
I had it 5-5 after 10 with Lopez winning 11 and 12 big. Thought he took round 10 off which suggested a big effort in the last rounds.
Terrible broadcast. Didn't replay any of Taylor's work.
Taylor just didn't manage to make Lopez work enough. But most rounds were the same. Taylor wins the first minute and Lopez the last minute.

Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
116-112 Lopez, gutted for Taylor, similar to the Catterall fight where he just looked tense, stiff and couldn't land his power punches clean, it was an even fight for first 6/7 rounds but Lopez pulled away, countering effectively and was gaining confidence each passing round, he hurt Taylor a few times down the stretch and picked off some lovely shots, hurt Taylor to the body a couple times as well, Taylor all heart though never stopped pressing but it just wasn't there, surely he'll move up now because that's 2 fights in a row he's looked pretty terrible
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
117-111 Lopez is fine. Taylor had a good start, but it was just a calculation by Lopez, whose speed and reflexes were far superior. Eventually Lopez started to deliver and Taylor felt that power.

Never thought i'd see Lopez pop taylor around the ring like that. Gutted tbf.
Think Taylor ran his murderers row much earlier than most do and he's definitley past his peak now. Stayed at Lww too long, obviously has a lot of physical issues, dicked about with his trainers. Not sure where he goes now.

The not being able to run, if true, makes sense.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 03:52 Woke up at 6 to read about the result fully expecting a clear Taylor win, shocked really but if he can't even run in training he must have major problems. The foot speed differential was clear for all to see.

The fight wasn't even close. Taylor never bothered the smaller man once

I think that’s defo been the case. Think he peaked in the Prograis fight. He’s just not looked the same fighter. At 32 he looks spent at world level. Maybe a rebuild for one last shot at a decent title.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 05:26 Never thought i'd see Lopez pop taylor around the ring like that. Gutted tbf.

Insane to think that if Taylor could have somehow won the last he'd have kept his title on a majority draw.

He might cash out against connor benn at ww. I'd still fancy him in that.ShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 05:41I think that’s defo been the case. Think he peaked in the Prograis fight. Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
I think thats it for Taylor at the elite level. He looks on the slide. Both Cateral and Lopez have shown the blueprint on how to outbox him and nulify his offense. He wont win a rematch against either, and Prograise will do him now too. He can move up, but what is he going to achieve at WW. ? Nobody in their right mind would give him a sniff against Crawford or Spence. He has been rocked and close to being stopped in his last two fights, he will get quickly chinned at the higher weight IMO.
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
This might be the best option for him. Back to the UK and cash out before his stock plummets.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 06:05He might cash out against connor benn at ww. Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
I think Ali is right, that's it done. Really enjoyed the journey apart from the Catterall saga and his achievements in such a short space of time were incredible . There aren't many Scottish boxers that do well beyond 30,crap diets from an early age and partying appears to be in our blood so while the drop off was to be expected i'm still gutted for him.
Would definitely preferred the torch to be passed to Catterall who appears to live the life, i really hope he gets his shot at the big time, he deserves it. Lopez looked a bit off the pace as well to me, certainly not at the peak he reached at 135. I think there are a few at 140 he would struggle with, Prograis and Catterall spring to mind.
For me peak Taylor was Ramirez, people might not agree with the scorecards last night but the scoring in the Ramirez fight was a joke. That was Taylors most clinical performance imo, he really took him apart and was a step ahead the entire fight outside of two rounds, he looked several levels above the entire division during that, was a real pleasure to watch.
Ps, don't mind him trying to cash out, just not against Benn. I hope no one gives the cheat any option and i hate seeing younger fighters want to fight shot old men like Pacquiao .

Re: Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez | Sky Sports - 10 June 2023
Taylor off the pace, still got a great chin, but maybe that’s it for him at elite level…or maybe not: it could be that Lopez just has that nightmare counterpunching style that coupled with a huge punch, made it hard for Josh to execute his usual brawling winning style. Also Teo very fast and very slick, dodging all those punches heading his way.
It’s a shame that we get top rank commentary, a couple of real goofballs, the clueless Christine Ponch and jermall, just happy to be there and contributing nothing

No chance of a rematch, somebody needs to have a talk with Taylor and tell him whats what.
