Cracking Calzaghe Undercard.

Whilst the main event might not be much (I'm actually pretty disgusted with it) I do have to say the undercard is shaping up nicely.

For me the real main event is Maccarinelli vs Johnny Nelson for the WBO Cruiserweight title proper - could be a good one.

Then we have Andy Morris vs Stephen Foster Jnr for the British Featherweight title, a very good 50:50 type bout. On current form though I do think Morris will be too much.

Two exceptional prospects, Ricky Burns and John Murray square off in a final eliminator for the British title - a really good looking match tough to call.

The English Light Middle title is on the line when Andrew Facey takes on the undefeated Matthew Hall. Facey of course scored an upset win over Matthew Macklin and hasn't lost since his challenge to Jamie Moore.

The English title is also on the line as Derry Matthews defends his Featherweight title against Rendell Munroe, Munroe gave a valiant effort vs Morris last time out.

Tony Doherty takes on Kell Brook in an intriguing Welterweight contest, a battle of the undefeated prospects.

An interesting Light Middleweight attraction is a real crossroads fights - both at one stage were considered excellent prospects but have gone off the boil of late. Big Punching, but vulnerable, Martin Conception takes on light punching, but durable, Thomas McDonagh.

Whilst the main event is poor, this is an excellent night of boxing - and I hope ITV do it justice.

Yes, credit where its due but I think Warren is covering himself in the event of Joe pulling out through injury... which you can't blame him for, considering Joe's record of withdrawals. Warren's shows very rarely get cancelled, and with Nelson vs Maccarinelli as chief support, this promotion will go ahead even if Calzaghe is unable to appear.

I really hope that ITV do the show justice, there is real depth to the card. Conception vs McDonagh is intriguing, I'll be rooting for Conception as he's an exciting fighter, while McDonagh is a bit of a waste of time really. In flashes he can look terrific but he seems to be going absolutely nowhere.

Looking alright that yeh, would be good if ITV could make a proper night of it, takes a certain amount of will to build and promote it. In that manner it would be good to put Amir Kahn on the card as it would encorage those who don't know much about boxing to tune in, if they then got to see a good night of boxing that would encorage them to tune in more.

Yep, what's the odds JC pulls out with a sore hand, then Nelson, and we end up with a Morris/Foster main event? Or Enzo v a fat middleweight?

Hope not though, cause it IS an excellent undercard.

you are all such cynics :) in fairness I was very impressed with Enzo when he took Hobson on at short notice, infact that was one of the more challenging fights he ever took

apparently around the hype round Rumble in the Jungle Forman talked about getting another fighter flown out so he could KO two fighters in one night.

I think Big George did eventualy fight 5 fighters on the same night, a few years after Zaire - only exhibitions though - but I think he knocked out a few of em, just for fun.

It wouldn't be the biggest surprise in the world if Calzaghe v Bika didn't happen due to injury. Lets hope Enzo v Nelson is set in stone and there will be no problems there especially Nelson's knee. Its a good card but take away those two fights and it looks like a different story.

indeed but calzaghe's opponents aren't always up to that much.

Realy looking forward to the Enzo Neilson fight, although having said that I can't help but feel that it will be a shut out by Neilson and we will learn that Enzo isn't all he is cracked up to him. How exciting the fight is is in many ways dependant on the level to which Neilson has been effected by the slip in his skills.

Its still a good undercard, but needs a good main event. All those fights are good solid 50:50 domestic fights, but it does need something with some meaning on the world scale. I would fully expect someone like Skelton to be drafted in and fight a scheduled 10 rounder to top the event (as Danny Williams did when Harrison postponed vs St Clair).

Warren has a host of domestic talent and I'm sure could create an undercard in a flash - its just main eventers he's a little shy of... only really got - Calzaghe, Enzo, Harrison, Arthur, and Skelton (he might start to push Gary Lockett in that role). They are really the only ITV 1 style fighters.

Amir kahn is proberbly been signed for that very reson, he is someone who may well have a futour and is currently enough of a name to bring in the casual viewer

To be honest, I couldn't care less if the Calzaghe fight falls through on this date (I'm not that interested in it anyway). Just as long as Nelson-Maccarinelli happens. That, for me, is the fight of the night.

And I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a Johnny Nelson fight.
