Take away the losses and look what you got. How he ever got title shots is beyond me.
that's absolutely bizarre! there must've been 100 heavyweights more deserving of a title shot than he was when he faced holyfield.

could it be he was a don king protege?
According to my boxing ratings, there were 172 more deserving at the time

09/1998 #2 EVANDER HOLYFIELD (21- 3- 0) UD 12 #174 VAUGHN BEAN
thumbs up! for the research!

fvckin' inexplicably bizarre bullshit!!! is an extra mild auxilary expression for this! how in boxing hell did bean got that shot???

i mean literally who had the idea and called whom, who then thought 'yeah! great! and who approved tgat shit

The Wikipedia article on the fight gives the record of events as:
- Holyfield vs. Lennox Lewis was in the works but couldn't be agreed upon
- Holyfield was matched with WBA #1 contender Henry Akinwande
- Akinwande diagnosis with Hepititis B, fight cancelled
- Vaughn Bean was IBF's #1 contender so he got the call

All of the above make sense except Bean being IBF's #1. Probably because he was 31-1 the public could be sold the fight. Holyfield hadn't fought in almost a year and wanted to stay busy before they could make the Lewis fight, and he knew he could beat Bean. So really, a stay-busy fight disguised as a title defense.

Mark De Mori (41-2-2) who has one of the most padded records in heavyweight history finally got back in the ring, took the money and ran, with this expected result:
Filip Hrgovic had an easy night's work, as he knocked out Mark De Mori in the first round of their fight.

The Croatian heavyweight wasted no time in dealing with De Mori, as he set about him immediately from the opening bell.

De Mori attempted to catch his opponent off guard with a few overhand rights, but as soon as he felt the power of Hrgovic, the Australian dropped to his knees.

Once he smelt blood, Hrgovic followed up with a barrage of right hands that saw the referee step in and stop the fight before the end of the first round.

And boxing fans were not impressed with the standard of the contest, as one commented: "What a pointless fight." While another said: "F*** me that was embarrassing." And a third added: "Waste of time."...

The most paddded record I can think of, and I mean no disrespect to him, would be that of Buck Smith.

Buck was a fine fighter and worthy of recognition, but he fought a zillion paid sparring sessions in small tank towns against preliminary fighters or worse. No knock on him, but about 70 of his wins were over guys who would be beginners in your local boxing class.
