The INLA were also the faction believed to have chased notorious Kinahan killer Fat Freddie Thompson to Spain after demanding extortion payments on drug money

One of the more relevant incidents involving the INLA paramilitary and criminals in and around Dublin was the Ballymount Bloodbath

"The origins of the "Ballymount Bloodbath" are barely remembered but gardai working in the area at the time said that a smart remark in a chip shop led to "a few slaps outside" between teenagers and then criminal damage valued at less than a €1,000 to a Hiace van started the whole thing. "

That's all it takes

In international criminal/boxing news, just learned Alejandro Cobrita Gonzalez just had his third son found murdered by a roadside in what may have been a drug/cartel/gang/whatever dispute, maybe even a roadside robbery gone wrong

Third son as in that's all three dead now, all murdered

Surely it's possible for you to talk about boxing without a link to Irish terrorism/ gangland connections.

If not, there is off topic

How is a boxer being arrested for attempted murder and membership of a terrorist organisation, the INLA, a faction that has killed, and killed for, the Kinahans, an international drug cartel with a massive influence in boxing, off topic??? :KO:

Nope, lost young men, exploited, very relevant, saw John Murray's latest interview yesterday, lamenting the lack of help for real boxers struggling after sport, youse have no guns in England but if you did it would be a lot worse, why is this fella, a young amateur boxer ,going to jail while one of the premier suppliers of drugs ,handguns, corruption, misery and deatb is smiling with the stars

But Gangsters have always been in boxing so what's the problem eh

I don't wand to hear "boxing is dead" because of a corrupt 115-113 score, boxing was never alive because it was always controlled by gangsters and 90 percent end up on the scrapheap, committing crimes, joining gangs, paramilitaries, some chat formerly whatever, and

you wanna fight?

Sorry?

What??

90% of boxers end up committing crimes and joining gangs?

Clearly someone who HAS NEVER set foot in a ABA / pro boxing gym and has absolutely zero idea of the good the sport does or any respect for the people who give up their time to change kids lives and give them something .

50% of ABA gyms in England are situated in 20% of the poorest most deprived areas. Guys, some of whom post on here, give up their time and give kids who have NOTHING something. All for the love of the sport.

90% end up on the scrap heap committing crime and joining gangs? Where has that statistic come from - it’s quite the opposite

If boxing turns 90% of those doing the sport into crime and drives them to join gangs what the fornicate are you doing on a posting on a forum promoting what you see as an abhorrent sport.

Get your arse down to your local ABA, train there for a few months, speak to the trainers, get to know the kids, then come on here and tell me 90% going through the door turn to crime.

I’ve seen so many kids come through our doors and boxing has given them a focus. Some have shit home lives, some from terrible estates , some can’t even afford to pay subs. Not one child has come through our doors and turned to crime BECAUSE of boxing . Not one.

Got to agree with that one , will admit i have seen some come through the gym and end up in the big house , BUT when i look back just about everyone of them were already entrenched in funny buisness before they came , but what they did do was leave it all at the door , inside they knew its gym mates , bikie affiliations , drugs ect ect were left outside , regards the younger ones some came from terrible homes and grew up real good citizens , most are still my freinds today , i'me older and not involved like i was years ago , but my mates when i'm in the pub cannot get over the amount of blokes who come up shake my hand give me a hug , couple say do you pay these guys

Best days were the early days , when we used to pile the van out with kids go to a show and just front up 10 kids , get 10 bouts , non of them kids ever payed subs , they showed there respect by not knicking the jam jar that was a honor system  ... Missis used to say i'll make sandwhiches for after because it cost me a fortune , , especielly if i took a car load interstate , guess who would be buying there meals was'nt the club , it was skint , was'nt the kids they had no money it was muggings here , try buying 5 breakfast for 5 hungry kids ranging from 12 to 15 , then lunch , then food after the show feeding them up because there hungry ,

All these things were great memories , and great experiences for them kids , some turned out ratbags but mostly they were rough kids who learnt to share and look after each other , they all have great respect for each other and others now 35-40 years later , and thankfully i am still in contact wth a lot of them and proud when they ring me and ask if i can train there grandkids and kids .. The gym was a great playground and learning school for most , they learnt RESPECT .

Absolutley bang on

some do come through the door and end up in nick, but not because of boxing, and certainly a lower percentage compared to one’s that don’t come through the door.
Some kids we have train 5 nights a week (which is a lot) - even then it’s only like 3% of their week.
The other 97% of their week they’re back in their own environment. All we can do is try to influence them, teach respect, try to provide different role models to those they see on the street and ambitious yet achievable goals.

To say 90% end up on scrap heap and turn to crime and gangs is not only dog shit but disrespectful as fornicate to guys up and down the country like yourself giving up your time to kids literally changing their lives for the better and often giving them the opportunity to forget the world for an hour or two.

Also - you used the word RESPECT

Can’t speak for every gym in the country. HOWEVER, every one I’ve ever been in prides itself on RESPECT.

Quite often it’s the only place some kids go where theycant get away with being chirpy or disrespectful

A political source in Westminster hostile to Neave's statements on the security situation in Northern Ireland is believed[by whom?] to have passed on information to the INLA which gave it the means to carry out the assassination attack upon him within the precincts of the Palace of Westminster. The information it had received gave it a means of access to the House of Commons' car park, and INLA decided to use a bomb with a mercury-tilt switch detonator which would explode when the device was at a particular angle, i.e. when the vehicle was on the House of Commons' car park ramp, as it lacked information on Neave's movements with the car to allow the effective use of a time bomb device.[7]

On Friday 30 March 1979 two INLA paramilitaries gained entry to the House of Commons' underground car park posing as workmen, carrying the bomb in a tool box. Once inside they identified Neave's car, and fixed a 16-ounce (450 g) explosive device with a mercury tilt detonator on to the floor panel under the driver's seat.

Neave left the House of Commons a few minutes before 3 p.m. As he drove up the underground car park's exit ramp the angle tilted the bomb's mercury switch and it exploded, the blast knocking Neave unconscious, severing his legs and trapping him in the mangled wreckage of the vehicle. Neave was cut free from the wreckage by the emergency services, and rushed to Westminster Hospital by ambulance, dying there a few minutes after arrival, not having regained consciousness.

-" INLA issued a statement regarding the attack in the August 1979 edition of its publication The Starry Plough:[10]

In March, retired terrorist and supporter of capital punishment, Airey Neave, got a taste of his own medicine when an INLA unit pulled off the operation of the decade and blew him to bits inside the 'impregnable' Palace of Westminster. The nauseous Margaret Thatcher snivelled on television that he was an 'incalculable loss' – and so he was – to the British ruling class.

Margaret Thatcher was due to broadcast to the nation that evening, but cancelled her plans due to her grief at Neave's death.[11] The House of Commons decided to resume its business less than an hour after the tragedy, with Labour Chief Whip Michael Cocks and Conservative Norman St John-Stevas taking the view that "legislation should not be baulked by murdering thugs."[11]

Neave's death came just two days after the vote of no confidence which brought down Callaghan's government and a month before the 1979 general election, which saw a Conservative victory and Thatcher come to power as Prime Minister. Neave's wife Diana, whom he married on 29 December 1942, was subsequently elevated to the House of Lords as Baroness Airey of Abingdon.

Neave's biographer Paul Routledge met a member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (the political wing of INLA) who was involved in the killing of Neave and who told Routledge that Neave "would have been very successful at that job [Northern Ireland Secretary]. He would have brought the armed struggle to its knees".[12]

As a result of Neave's assassination the INLA was declared illegal across the whole of the United Kingdom on 2 July 1979.[
