43 years ago tonight

Roberto Duran W15 Sugar Ray Leonard. I had Duran ahead by 2 points watching on CCTV but when I saw the replay on home television I had Duran ahead 10-4-1. What are the board's memories of The Brawl in Montreal ?

Duran won by 3 points minimum and 5 points maximum in my eyes.

I came into boxing as a hardcore fan a few years after this fight.
Leonard was my favourite fighter despite being retired at that time. Everything about him was electric.

I watched this fight for the first time as a teenager with my best mate at the local gas works' social club. A guy there had a projector and old films.

Because Ray was my fave I argued that he should have got the decision. It was about 1985-86 and Duran was derided and mocked in the US boxing media. Much later I watched again and had a very different opinion of the fight.

Such an occasion. When Duran enters the ring it is amazing. Great atmosphere.

I consider Duran's win the greatest achievement in the sport over the past 50+ years. Nobody looks better than Ray in the ring. And for Duran to beat such a gifted, naturally bigger man, and to do it clearly, as an aggressive fighter over 15 rounds. Wow!

Love it too that after Duran went 15 with Hagler he went straight to where Ray was sitting ringside and said, "You can beat him."
