I watched clips of his fight with Holyfield the other day - it has to be said, it wasn't very effective, at one point he must have taken 20 flush full blooded shots in a row. Foreman barely even blinked.

You don't get many heavyweights who could put together a sustained cluster of shots like The Real Deal did.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 06:36I watched clips of his fight with Holyfield the other day - it has to be said, it wasn't very effective, at one point he must have taken 20 flush full blooded shots in a row. Whyte's weakness is the single uppercut, so might help against that.

Yes, there aren't any heavyweights out there these days who fight with that sort of intensity and sustained output. Holyfield was an absolute monster. It's pretty incredible that Foreman was able to go the distance with him at such an advanced age - and he had his moments too. What a fight that would have been if they were both in their primes. Would have been an absolute tear up for certain. The Gratest wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 06:50You don't get many heavyweights who could put together a sustained cluster of shots like The Real Deal did.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 06:36I watched clips of his fight with Holyfield the other day - it has to be said, it wasn't very effective, at one point he must have taken 20 flush full blooded shots in a row. I'm not sure about that. Holyfield was a very very hard man indeed, he was only stopped twice in his career, once by Riddick Bowe, in a very bizzare fight indeed, and the other by James Toney, who literally ripped him to bits, in one of the most underrated performances by a heavyweight, was sheer perfection that night Toney.
I'd favour Foreman, but Holyfield had the toughness, stamina and speed to cause him problems. I think in their primes Foreman would have worn him down in a very tough fight and probably stopped him late on, but I don't see him just annihilating him Holyfield was too technically savvy to be standing in front of foreman eating his punches.

The problem with the cross arm defense is that you're slow to get off power punches. You can jab effectively with it and escape a lot of punishment, but you can't mount offense from it like you'd want to.

Probably right James, I was thinking Holyfield was a bit Frazieresque but like you say he was probably too savvy to stand toe to toe with Foreman.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 08:26I'm not sure about that. Frazier only new one way to fight, which was to come barelling in and apply pressure, which against Foreman, was like trying to derail a freight train with your head.dr_devious wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 13:09Probably right James, I was thinking Holyfield was a bit Frazieresque but like you say he was probably too savvy to stand toe to toe with Foreman.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 08:26I'm not sure about that. Foreman said he was actually terrified of frazier, because he was worried about copping one of those big left hooks, so he decided to try and stop him early.

Toney was sublime against that version of Holyfield but it is also worth remembering that Holyfield was 42 at the time and shot to bits.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kabayel and Bakole, two mentioned as potential Fury opponents are the same two considered by Hearn. Joshua has sparred them both.
Otherwise, Wallin? Hunter? Miller?

I suspected a while ago Hearn/Joshua didn't want Whyte AND Wilder, and Hearn seems to be confirming that now.
If they lock in Wilder for December, Joshua will take a very safe fight in September and Hearn has Whyte on the hook with a lowball offer for now, that he will only ramp up if the Wilder fight falls over.

Whyte on Joshua Rematch: "There's No Communication, Nothing at All, They're Messing About"
"It's a big fight, it's eight weeks away and there's no communication, nothing," Whyte told Sky Sports. "Just nothing. Nothing at all. They're just wasting time messing about.
"It just doesn't seem real. They're trying to put me in the same position they did a few years ago, saying: 'Oh, we're trying to make the Joshua fight.'
"These big fights take time. There's lots of things that go on, there's lots of small print and this team want that and that team want this. There's a lot of things that go on. It takes a long time to make these big fights."
"This is heavyweight boxing, stranger things have happened. Obviously I will still train and try and stay focused and stay ready in case it happens. Because I've been up for fighting Joshua since the day I lost to him in 2015," Whyte said.
"The score is 1-1 so far. He's won one. I beat him in the amateurs, he beat me in the pros so I want to get even. I would love nothing more than to have a chance to avenge my defeat. I'll just go to war. I want to go to war because I think that's a good way to fight him, pressure him, back him up and start getting him on the backfoot as early as possible and I'm strong enough, I'm big enough to do that. I carry enough power obviously to back him up and to knock him out."

Whyte is being played by Hearn as nothing more than a Plan B for if the December Wilder fight can't get made. If they get Wilder, Whyte's phone won't ring again.

Talk that Whyte wants 10m to fight AJ and that's why the fight won't be made

“No it’s not true at all. We made him an offer which they made it clear was nowhere near their expectations, and, quite honestly, there were very little negotiations after that. He never asked for ten million. Not sure where that came from" - Eddie Hearn

It was evident Hearn/Joshua didn't want BOTH the Whyte and Wilder fights this year.
It was going to be Whyte next and not Wilder in December.
or
Someone other than Whyte next and Wilder in December.
Hearn, in his own words, is "100% focused on Wilder in December" and that's why they are not interested in offering Whyte enough to entice him over the line.
