David Benavidez vs. David Morrell | Showtime PPV - Oct/Nov 2023?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

David Benavidez vs David Morrell Jr reportedly agreed for October/November

David Benavidez holds the WBC interim super middleweight title, Morrell the WBA “world”

While Canelo busies himself chasing middleweights and cruiserweights, his two most appealing super middleweight challengers are on a collision course. Sampson Lewkowicz, promoter of WBC interim champion David Benavidez, tells Dan Rafael that “El Bandera Roja” and WBA “world” champion David Morrell Jr “have reached a deal in principle” to meet atop a Showtime pay-per-view in either October or November.

In terms of pure entertainment value, this matchup is hard to beat, pitting Benavidez’s (27-0, 23 KO) inexhaustible pressure and thudding power against Morrell’s (9-0, 8 KO) blend of top-tier athleticism and spiteful punching. Benavidez last saw action in March, scoring the best win of his career by battering Caleb Plant down the stretch, while Morrell needed less than a round to torch late replacement Yamaguchi Falcao in April.

If this gets over the finish line, both men deserve all the credit in the world; they watched the sanctioning bodies give Canelo free rein to shirk his responsibilities as undisputed champion and are taking it upon themselves to keep the division moving. Benavidez has lost two belts to unforced errors, and there’s no better way to make up for than proving himself against one of the scariest men in the division.

This is too far away.. Benavidez fought in January.

Morrell fought God knows when.

He was supposed to actually be out this weekend.

Already seen a post on Twitter saying, Benavidez calls out Canelo then fights a guy with 9 fights.

Honestly some people call themselves boxing fans. They just trolls.

Yup, too far away.

Maybe Bena's team wants to see what Canelo does next ?

These fighters like to fight 1 or 2 times per year / at two years. lol

Bena vs Morrell would be a good fight if it happens. We will wait and see.

Absolutely.

You can't say anything against Benavidez.

He'd fight Canelo 7 days out of 7.

Benavidez is now probably the lineal most avoided champ since GGG in his peak.

That Canelo fight is rapidly becoming increasingly unlikely.

- Canelo is becoming such a diva that he might yet steal Bena from the little known Morrell.

He's all over the map these days. Eddy Reynosa supposedly in Vegas conferring with Haymon in his underground infrared bunker about a Charlene sista fight in a fight for divas everywhere.

Good for Bena to be active as he cannot stay at 168 too much longer. Morrell is impressing me as one of the few Cubans who come to fight, so either or, 168 heating up is good for the division and boxing in general :TU:

Morrell on Benavidez: "Mexican Monster? He's a Fraud, He'd Get His Shoes Taken in Cuba"

“David Benavidez is a big bitch,” said Morrell. “His dad is a big fraud always talking like he’s some tough guy but he’s just a small man with little man complex. His brother wants to be gangster who talks a lot of sh!t but got knocked out by Crawford and did a horrible job in the movie Creed.

"The Benavidez’ are a bunch of cowards. This is the guy you call The Mexican Monster? He’s a fraud. This is the guy everyone is building up. I see a fat insecure boy…that’s what I see. Benavidez couldn’t walk down any street in Cuba without getting his shoes taken. Funny he calls Canelo a duck, who's the duck now?"

Much better fight than most think. Props to both guys for stepping up.

Guess I spoke too soon. Sounds like Benevidez doesn't want the fight?

Charlos, Bena, Morrell and Andrade are gonna wait safely in line for Canelo's PAYDAY, now that he has signed with PBC. No risky fights for them.

I dont think this will happen. Benavidez is very vocal how everybody avoiding him, but he was very very silent when Morrell called him out many times

true. Bena just wants that Canelo PAYDAY, PAYDAY! He is very close to get it since Canelo signed with pbc.

The only guy that has a realistic shot is Mall Charlo. Canelo has avoided fighting Andrade for years, for some reason. Morrell is too much risk, with no reward.

Yeah but the rest of the PBC top fighters (154-168) know that Canelo signed a three fight deal with PBC and they would not risk their status knowing that they may have a chance to fight Canelo.

Why do you think that Bena was not interested anymore about fighting Morrell, after Canelo signed with PBC?

How can you avoid someone that backs out of fights or just doesn't fight at all. You need to stop.
