James J. Braddock vs. Paulino Uzcudun

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout

Either the Cinderella Man outboxes Uzcudun behind his long left jabs and right hands to take a decision or vice versa for Uzcudun who work on the body and nailing Braddock with big left hooks to take a decision. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Braddock was very inconsistent. He also has a lot of trouble with his hands, which obviously hurt his cause. Uzcudun was a tough, good but not great fighter. At his best, Braddock would probably win. However, we often didn't get that. Probably a 50-50 fight.

Uzcudun was one of those guys who was so good but always fell short when it counted. If anyone from his era should have been a champion it should have been him. But I just don't think he wanted it bad enough.

Because of that simple fact I think Jim Braddock would've beaten him. The Cinderella Man had such deep reserves of courage and grit and hope that it would've taken someone really special to have beaten him when he was training full-time, injury free, and motivated.

Uzcudun did beat Max Baer. Had some other decent wins. He was not particularly talented or have a ton of power. If anything, he was an overachiever.
