Re: Ben Shalom
This man is out of his depth, sky surely won't put up with him for much longer. For boxings sake i hope they don't.
Re: Ben Shalom
Unknown promoter helps make Sky boxing unknown.

This must be the worst ever Summer for boxing on SKY which is down to him

Re: Ben Shalom
I have a problem with Sky’s quality contol as written on another thread.
Also stated on another thread, I DO NOT have a problem with Ben Shalom not at all.
When you consider the giant steps he and his promotional company has come from, I think he is doing as well as can be expected.
If those steps taken are not good enough surely thats Skys problem.
So whats the problem ? Because clearly I have a problem with British Boxing, at present again written on another thread, I thnk it’s a joke .
But for now back to Shalom … he is making steps to improve, if overall a particular show is not good enough, surely that is Skys problem ? They should
Be making Shalom’s phone red hot telling Shalom to improve the quality of shows.
If Sky do not have faith in Shaloms ability to put on regular quality shows, then surely there is a clause in his contract and thus they should cancel the contract.
I will say again its not Shaloms problem until he is formally told & warned by Sky Tv
With regards the interview I honestly think Shalom comes across as quite humble. He clearly cares.

Re: Ben Shalom
Tbf. Summer is notoriously shallow for boxing content.
BOXXER doing fair to middling.
Let’s get behind the guy. Not knock him down.
Mind you it’s typical of us Brits. There are more obvious targets. More odious individuals.

Re: Ben Shalom
My point is Sky should know better.and have the balls to front up to tv executives… i can remember mick hennessy having some right arguments with head of boxing at the bbc
Re: Ben Shalom
He came over pretty well on Tris' podcast I thought and I'm not a big fan of his shows so far.
Re: Ben Shalom
He made Khan-Brook.
Re: Ben Shalom
Spud. I get that mate and Mick (at the time) was
a breath of fresh air and he never got a fair rub.,,
. We are, where we are, BOXXER will live or die by their content
It needs to improve though
Re: Ben Shalom
In all fairness to all promoters though , theres not excatly a great deal of talent around to sign , look at Okolie ,why the hell any promoter using him has me stuffed , , I was promoting only job he would get off me is helping put the ring up . lack of talent available always means its gonna be hard , and then they end up making stars and protecting the records of mediocre talent , ala Frazer something or nother

Re: Ben Shalom
Give a rational, calm score out of 10 does the forum think Shalom has done so far?
I have done a poll at the top of this thread

Re: Ben Shalom
2. I just don't think he understands boxing.
Will be delighted to be proven wrong as I'd happily enjoy fighters getting better purses and career progression
I just think he is as thick as mince.
As I said, will be delighted to be proven wrong.

If not, can Shalom & his team turn things around?
What fundamental things have to change?
Re: Ben Shalom
I still dont know who he is, where he came from out of the blue or who he is fronting for.
According to the story he went from organising a loss making student tuck shop event one week to signing an exclusive multi million pound deal with Sky the following week.
He is either a genius or there is something not quite right going on (and he doesn't appear to be a genius)

Same thing with Smith, got the job 30 years ago and still no one knows how he got or kept the job.bripez wrote: ↑25 Jun 2023, 13:13 I still dont know who he is, where he came from out of the blue or who he is fronting for.

Shalom has done poorly in the poll, I suppose because he has done a poor job, still prob ahead of Smith.

Re: Ben Shalom
But AGAIN…
Surely Sky were impressed when Shalom pitched to them?
Have I got things badly wrong myself, i do not blame Shalom one little bit, he has chanced his arm & at times come up short, I am sure he islearning everyday.
I blame Sky.

Re: Ben Shalom
Sky would have taken him on as there were few other options. They could have gone with someone like Hennessy but unfortunately he’s proven that he can’t promote as well as the other big guys and he’s had prime tv deals.
I’d have imagined they’d have seen it like Adam Smith essentially becoming the promoter. He’d tell Ben what he wants and it’d be up to Ben to get it done. With no Adam Smith, that quality control has dropped massively. So has the volume of U.K. shows.
A promoter can only be judged on what they actually deliver. The first 6 months last year was strong. The first 6 months this year has been crap. That’s on Ben. And Sky need to do a better job holding him to account.
