Sorry?

What??

90% of boxers end up committing crimes and joining gangs?

Clearly someone who HAS NEVER set foot in a ABA / pro boxing gym and has absolutely zero idea of the good the sport does or any respect for the people who give up their time to change kids lives and give them something .

50% of ABA gyms in England are situated in 20% of the poorest most deprived areas. Guys, some of whom post on here, give up their time and give kids who have NOTHING something. All for the love of the sport.

90% end up on the scrap heap committing crime and joining gangs? Where has that statistic come from - it’s quite the opposite

If boxing turns 90% of those doing the sport into crime and drives them to join gangs what the fornicate are you doing on a posting on a forum promoting what you see as an abhorrent sport.

Get your arse down to your local ABA, train there for a few months, speak to the trainers, get to know the kids, then come on here and tell me 90% going through the door turn to crime.

I’ve seen so many kids come through our doors and boxing has given them a focus. Some have shit home lives, some from terrible estates , some can’t even afford to pay subs. Not one child has come through our doors and turned to crime BECAUSE of boxing . Not one.

He's been inside a few times but last I heard he was doing ok, selling a bit of tobacco (actual tobacco) but now and again

Think he's tried his hand at a few robberies the first one he was 20 so hopefully no more of them.

"A FORMER boxer who represented Ireland at underage level has been put on probation for two years for his part in a terrifying daylight robbery at a Dundalk jewellers.
Eddie Nesbitt, (20) who is originally from Belfast but now has an address in Fatima Drive, Dundalk, pleaded guilty to robbing Duffner's Jewellers, Clanbrassil Street shortly before 4pm on April 29th 2008.

Nesbitt's cousin, Paul Nesbitt, was the main mover in the robbery, Dundalk Circuit Court heard."

It was a smash, grab and run job with a rock and he was afraid of his cousin who had a reputation . Judge actually told.him to keep up the boxing or it'll keep happening

"Nesbitt had came to live with his cousin in Dundalk just a short time before the robbery after his parents broke up.

Barrister Grainne O'Neill said Nesbitt, who was never in trouble before, was a keen boxer in his youth and had represented his country.

He is now back training with a club in Dundalk and was not living with Paul any more."

They all kind of went into disarray after their parents split, the brothers, aimless existence was a good way to put it for the judge, but afaik they're doing well

Often they weren't sure when or if they'd have a bed for the night, and kind of went their own ways

Brian is dead now, Jim is dimntuitive but was a decent boxer in his youth, known for use of knives, drug dealer family, hoods

Brian was spotted trying to stab a father in a playpark while his infant son cheered him on " Go on Daddy!!! "

"A man charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Belfast claims he acted in self-defence, a court has been told.

Brian Lane also alleged that the wounded man had turned up at his home brandishing a knife, his lawyer said.

Mr Lane, 24, of Cooke Street in the city, is accused of trying to kill the 27-year-old early on Sunday morning.

The victim is critically ill, but stable after being stabbed in the stomach near Mr Lane's house.

A police officer told Belfast Magistrates Court she could connect the accused with the alleged offence.

She confirmed during questioning by defence solicitor Niall O'Neill that the accused had raised self-defence during interviews.

The officer also agreed that Mr Lane claimed the wounded man arrived at his house armed with a knife.

Mr O'Neill told the court his client was not applying for bail at this stage.

Mr Lane was remanded in custody to appear again via video-"

That doesn't work, doesn't address socio-economic factors, 80 percent of kneecappings in the world must have been done to leggy criminals, drug dealers and rapists etc. In Backalley Belfast between 80s and 90s, all of led to was more antisocial, bitter, drug addled hoods with holes In their knees pestering the community.

Well, Eddie Nesbitts dad wasn't a very stable man, so I'd imagine the clear cans short of a sixpack the brothers can be might have something to do with that, rather than just wanting to be wiped out all the time cuz it's fun

Plus with a role model like his uncle bringing him on robbberies before her be old enough to drink in the states,

I don't understand this attitude especially from people who are fans/participants of a sport that often leaves it's participants on the scrapes with mental problems

some hoods have covered the H.A.T to make F.A.P (fornicate All Paramilitaries) and written UTHs on the threat (Up the Hoods, common grafitti amongst young criminals)

The softly softly attitude also doesn’t work given the amount of crime. The only things many criminals understand is a big boot up the arse.

Crime is directly related to poverty, it's not any bleeding heart excuse, it's the way it is. Putin came in and took care of all those ruthless gangs, but then consolidated his own power by being a gangster, he just eliminated his rivals, didn't clean up Russia.

Without rehabilitation they will just be disenfranchised from society and more likely to reoffend
