Martin hurt him again late.

id give martin 2 rounds, but that was a compeditive fight. martin hurt anderson twice anderson hurt martin zero times (that knockdown didnt hurt him).

I dont know what id do with Anderson now, you need to put him in real fights so he learns, but not so real he loses....

I think Anderson is probably going to need a few more of these types of fights before moving him up.

Exactly what I was thinking.
He isn't learning anything from the easy beats any more, but isn't quite ready for this level yet.
This is exactly what this kid needed.
Agreed. Anderson needs to get tested to improve.

I guess, looking on the bright side, we now know that he's got a hell of a chin

He took some BIG shots from Martin. That one at the end was a KO punch.

If he learns to avoid them, with his solid chin as a backup, that's a really good scenario.

he was hurt 3 different rounds by the left hand but never really made an adjustment to it, just kept pulling back with his hands down. to me that's the most worrying sign. previous fights his defense was lazy and i thought it was because he just didnt respect the guy and it was too easy. but here a guy was hurting him at times and it was the same thing. needs to tighten up for sure.

the goods are that he showed the fitness to do the full 10 rounds without fading, good shot variety including body work, was able to be succesful both as southpaw and orthodox, something very few at hw can. the power didnt really show nearly as much as before but hit hard enough to make martin very hesistant for much of the fight

so mixed review from me. i do expect he should get better though, especially if this serves as a wake up

This is the perfect display of levles. Anderson one of the top heavyweight prospects in years struggles vs a guy that has never won a meaningfull fight... (ok mabey his world title in was meaningfull but it wasnt super legit).

Anderson was sharp, but at a real levle that "incredible offence" is just fairly good. defensively his reflexes are good, but he cant rely on them without any defensive technique. now some mitigating factors such as southpaw, opponent change, home town nerves...but that was much harder than anyone in the world expected for anderson.

moving fowards i would move back a tiny bit, but not back so far that he can just piss through people with 100 punches a round... bit of Berlanga syndrome having things too easy too long, there going to have to find him some chalanges. in house shaw, guido, kean, cotto are all good options... efe in a couple of fights is a good option too.

guido and kean would be too easy i think, even the winner of that. i think jah would stop kean in about a minute tbh. shaw and efe though i think could be development fights

there is a hw cotto ? :oo

Either Charles Martin isn't as bad as we thought, or Jared Anderson isn't as good.

But Anderson is very young as far as heavyweights go, and has time to improve.

martin always gets underrated...................aside from the joshua fight he has given everyone problems. bounced ortiz (wilder and fury bois jizz to lou) off the canvas, easily beat wilder challenger and helenius conqueror gerry washington, was the only guy for years to bust up and stop joey d, had basically a 1 point fight with a streaking kownacki, now hurts jah multiple times

he was a top usa amateur too. no one but aj has beaten him easily

:TU: What you wrote about him a few weeks back rang pretty true, I thought he might tighten up with better opposition, but that 5th round should have been a huge wake up and it wasn't. Like you said, he kept walking straight back hands only half up.
Those traits need to be ironed out of him now.
Other than that, he has a reasonable engine- first time past 6 and he wasn't hugging on for dear life. That's a positive.
I really thought he would get Martin out of there, and am a bit disappointed his power isn't at that at this C level. Just shows you can look lile a beast against cans..

fair point, But he has actually beaten noone... plus he just often looks bad/slow/simpple and is 37.

His best real wins are Washington (who was 39?), Flores, and vargas??....

his losses are weird... hard to say they are great losses depends how good you see that version of Kow and ortiz and AJ...

-Ortiz looked near dead in there... he was 43 (probably older) and he was getting hurt by shots i could take (nearly).... But then he gave ruiz problems after so i guess... i dunno ortiz is such a bad messuring stick opponent for me because at no point ever have i had a firm grasp on how good or bad he may be....

-Kownaki loss has an interesting questionmark, I genuinly belive Kow was on forbidden supplements then. so i actualy credit this as a decent preformance by martin because that wasnt moderen day "post miller failing" Kownaki...

-AJ murdered him but that was a murderouse AJ

Hope another prospect has the money to go after martin be fun to get a comparision. Torrez, huni, the big uzbec, Efe (That is a cracking fight), yoka, dychco... good chance to 1 up the "top prospect".

no one is saying he's some top flight hw, just better than the joke soft touch he is often depicted as. he's given multiple tough fights to top-ish 15 guys (and yes even beat one technically  ) and easily handled a lower top 30 range who was off a career best win. he carries some power and can be surprisingly quick with the left, hence landing it on all his opponents except his feeble title defense

lotta people seem to just reduce him entirely to the joshua fight. ive called him underrated for years and this fight further reinforces that belief; it was suppose to be an easy blowout but instead jah won a decision in a fight he was hurt multiple times.

yes tiprink please !!!pump dem brakes on jah!!

only mexicans or obscure exots with hard earned 14 -0 ish records and at least 250 pounds if they are 5' 10" or taller, at least for the next 3, 4 years and no more fights than 2 or max 3 a year.
in any case
Jared must be younger, taller and with the longer reach than his opponent who should have max 4 weeks prep time at the most if there's really no way of switching up last minute.

big baby has to grow into his man strength without the strenuous psychological stress of any fights that could possibly be any challenge for him whatsoever. he might even really get a last growth spurt in height of half an inch or maybe even 3/4.

so tiprink please! pump the breaks hard on one of the last somehow reasonably active heavyweights out there. pleaasee tiprink pleaseeeeee!!!!

Glad I watched the fight.
It was a good indication of where Anderson is at.
And kudos to Martin, he did ten rounds and tried his best right to the final bell.

F**k me what a terrific fight that was. And what a relief to know the heavyweight division is in safe hands, because Jared Anderson is the real deal baby :salut:
And where the hell did this new Charles Martin come from??
How did he suddenly turn into such a bad ass? (no I’m not going down that road) nothing like that flop all those years ago against AJ - he was bringing the heat from round one, although I guess we shouldn’t be that surprised, I mean how much motivation do you need to land that one punch to turn yourself into a multi millionaire overnight?
Big baby showed he’s got the right stuff, good chin and a huge heart. Righting the ship like that, the very next round after being badly hurt, impressively sidestepping an onrushing shocking career disaster like a real pro. He’s got what it takes, and that’s great to know.
Great commentary for once on top rank international feed, who is he? really brings the drama, unlike that nuclear level Buzzkill Crystina, who was good on interviews after and hopefully stays there.

Martin is ok. Hes a lefty, tall and can punch. This is next level hw power, you cant simply let these tyle of guys hit you

He either adjusts or he will eventually be stopped like joyce as he ascends. Hes young i think its a good learning experience

Obviously, some major things to work on defensively, which I think he will work on. Learning experience for sure but that was the point.
I am looking forward to his next fight.

A couple of weeks back I said I hoped JA would take his time, not get sloppy because Martin can punch. Being a southpaw makes it uglier. I read Martin was re-dedicating himself for his last few fights. I believe he was training when he got the call, so not like he rolled off the couch. Southpaws are tricky, many boxers try to avoid them. Btw I wonder if he took a dive vs Joshua.
Anyway, I think a Chisora or Whyte type fight would be good, old man Ortiz if he wants a slightly better southpaw. All three are decent names on a resume. JA retreating in a straight line back may backfire on him. Seems he's trying to mimic Shak Stevenson at times but slower.

Still super high on Jah. This was exactly what he needed. Martin provided him with maybe his best effort and hopefully taught the kid that he has things to work on. Jah still dominated most of the fight and showed us he has a chin. Next fight for Anderson will be telling.

Martin was a great pick in opponent. He doesnt have an extra gear, can hurt you with one punch but not knock you out with one punch, and is flawed defensively

Id assume helenius would be next

At least they had the split screen. They didn't even used to have that.
