Carlos Monzon Series on Netflix

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Monzón: A Knockout Blow

The story about Argentinian boxer Carlos Monzón in his career and life in prison.

Came out in 2019 and available on Netflix in the UK. It's brilliant. Great acting and scenes.

Undisputed Middleweight champion, from Argentina, Carlos Monzon was before my time. Many consider him the Greatest Middleweight. He was brutal and controversial and he retired as the World champion.

Worth watching. It's not sugar-coated - he wasn't a nice man.

He was the greatest middleweight of all time. He would have beaten both Hagler and Greb.

He was also in the running for worst piece of work of all time.

Anyone seen this?

Of the last 50 years I would have Monzon, Hagler, Hopkins and Golvokin as the best of the best at 160.

I wonder if they mention him sparring Mickey Rourke in prison and knocking Rourke out.

Rourke was crazy to take on a psychopath. But you know actors... Probably channeled the experience in a role later on.

When you said 50 years I was thinking more hyperbole on Boxrec.
Then i remembered 50 years was only 1973
Damn I'm getting old. But yes I agree with your top 4 in the last 50 years

I know the feeling. I would have Hagler over Monzon personally, I just think he was a better fighter and would have beaten Monzon.

Mine were just in chronological order. There's nothing between them. I think Monzon had the best record. But at this sort of level it's what you like.

Could you imagine a round robin tournament with the 4 of them?
Wow now that would be worthy of ppv

I'd replace Hopkins and Golovkin with Roy Jones Jr. and Rodrigo Valdes.

"Mickey Rourke" starred in that Tough-Guy Streetster flick "Bullet", which was made in 1995, and released in 1996.
He visited and sparred Monzon in prison, in either 94 or 95.
I think it(The whole experience) Did inevitably enable Rourke to play his character(Butch "Bullet" Stein) in that particular flick with a certain special extra edge. Rourke Really went into Full On Ham Mode with playing that particular character.
I always admired his Acting Performance, an Extra Special Amount, with that particular role.

Pretty Cool that it was also almost entirely filmed in My Hometown state of NY.
Mostly NY, and the prison scene i think was filmed in Connecticut.
I happen to live about 55 miles from that state.
I Need to take a bike-ride to Connecticut.
