Maxim would have his moments outboxing Saad Muhammad behind his jabs and movement, but Saad Muhammad would rally by cutting Maxim off the ring and attacking the body and head to take a decision.

Both guys are tough as nails. Saad hits harder, and is the better all around offensively skilled fighter. I gotta favor Saad to take a UD in a hellacious fight.

I assume Muhammad was just too strong for Maxim, but I really shouldn't say because I've watched so few of the latter's fights.

Still, based on what I've read about Maxim, I just cannot picture him outboxing and outlasting Muhammad at 12 or 15 rounds. Saad was far stronger and harder-hitting and probably the quicker, superior athlete too. I envision Saad getting the better of the exchanges, and Maxim falling into a pattern of fighting to survive.

Saad on points, by comfortable margin.

Check out Saad's two 1976 bouts against the clever boxing Mate Parlov for an example of what I'm thinking. Parlov fought much like Maxim. But Saad's superior strength carries the action even when they're just jabbing, boxing, and moving. Parlov obviously can't risk trading blows with the heavy fisted Saad, and focuses on constantly pulling away.

Matthew Saad Muhammad by late KO win. Too strong physically and mentally. Even when he was getting outboxed, he never lost patience. He never got discouraged nor hurt. He just kept coming and punching. He was very exciting to watch.
