Billy's lack of power is making this an uphill battle.

Lucas had power as well, he would be a name on the British scene.

Lucas in command by the end of the 7th round.

Billy will need a miracle to turn this around.

lucas was winning but it was hardly some beat down and billy was always fighting right there fighting back with him. it was competitive for the most part. didnt like that stoppage, mercy should be for much more punishing, one sided fights

If you're going to stop people with little chance of winning for no reason then 95% of fights should be stopped early.

Ref calls a halt to proceedings in the 8th.

Pickles could have gone on no doubt but was under fire and had next to no chance of winning. He was somewhat over matched.

I presume Ballingall is related to Michael Mckinson. On the strength of this performance Lucas is a much better watch than Mckinson.

What were they meant to do with him? He's not a ticket seller and was unbeaten in 13.

Yeah, they took a chance on stepping him up and challenge for an English title but it failed. No shame in that.

My criticism might be the complete lack of 50/50 fights on Pickles' record prior to this match. His lack of competitive experience quickly became evident by the 3rd round.

I worry about that for all the Leeds fighters.

I would of thought there must be a little more middle ground on offer than just predominantly beating boxers with long losing records ?

Surely there would have been a couple more boxers who could have presented a reasonable threat ?

The shows at Elland Road in Leeds are the least competitive around , very rarely see one of the home boys turned over .

Apparently not. My mate asked to box elsewhere last time out as his fans weren't interested in another Elland Road fight. He got one of the hardest six rounders I have seen at The Magna.

It's a flawed strategy. Who puts the money up for more expensive opponents is the sticking point I expect, but the main event last night clearly exposes the problem.

Even if Pickles had lost another fight on the way through but it was demanding and he learned from the experience, he would have been better equipped to mount a more sustained challenge.

Who knows, maybe this loss will be his learning fight & he comes back stronger for it :maybe:
