Fury chose money instead of legacy. Everyone here will sh1t on him for this, but the bout will gather more attention than the potential one against Usyk.

The sell with Ngannou (aside from him being an explosive 18 stone beast), is that he stepped away from the UFC as king of the division. He had also made definite improvements, worked on his cardio, ground game etc.

But it’s hard not to see him running out of both gas and ideas pretty quick against Fury, in a boxing match.

It will. Worldwide, it will be a smash. BT is the home of UFC fans here already.
I have absolutely no idea how UFC PPV numbers do, so accept I could be very wrong.

Mayweather was a PPV star when he had his contest with McGregor - who was at that time the poster boy of the UFC; that fight couldn't help do the big numbers.
But Fury hasn't established himself anywhere near Mayweather or Canelo for selling PPVs .. and Ngannou did even appears unable to sell PPVs in the UFC .. the numbers suggests only McGregor was able to do that.

I think this will bomb for PPV.
These are rough numbers but UFC buys are probably on average about 400k-500k these days with the huge fights being between 800k-1.2m. Ngannou's numbers are probably 600k-800k if he has a big opponent.

Also worth noting that UK fans don't usually have to pay for UFC PPV unless it's UK based (I think).
From what I can see on Google, Ngannou's only had one PPV show in 2018 which did 340000 buys .. that was 5yrs ago so maybe he may be more popular now - but hardly anywhere McGregor popularity.

Far as I see that's similar to Fury v Wilder 3 numbers too.

Yep .. I think it bombs.

True, but I think his legacy and character will take another hit after the Ngannou fight: once the people gullible enough to pay for it have turned in, and realised it was a total mismatch, more questions will be asked why Fury isn't fighting his main competitor.

He will be a very rich man but will also go down as one of the biggest bottle jobs in boxing history. And I think that will haunt him in retirement.

This is massive amount of cowardice on display here by a lot of people. Avoiding ones biggest rival is rum, but putting a non boxer with zero professional boxing fights in with a Heavyweight Champion is diabolical.

Ironically it's a logical scenario for boxing. It's the professional sport, the commercial one. When it was the only elite combat sport, it didn't need fighters from the other combat sports to make big fights. Now it has changed.

It won’t sell well in US.

Unless they cater it for the US fans, then might do ok. But then ur shafting UK fans having it at 3am and in Saudi it will be around 6am.

I guess, it will depend also on how Usyk's career gonna develop. If he retires in a couple of fights, he'll remain relatively unknown. So, the casual mass won't remember Fury as a duck, if they won't be able to remember the one, whom he 'ducked'.

As it seems now, Fury will be remembered as the funny guy, who dethroned the Klit and rumbled with Wilder.

Are you saying that Fury is more interested in maximising his earnings than taking on the cream of Eastern Europe???

Next they will be saying that the WBC will keep him as champ as they see him as a cash cow.....

Of course, Fury is simply trying to cash out.

Yeah, I won't be surprised, if the WBC tries it as well.

I honestly don’t think it will. The Usyk fight would have been absolutely massive. This is a joke fight which won’t capture the general attention anywhere near as much once the initial novelty has worn off.

Maybe Fury isn't a coward after all, and is just chasing the biggest paydays.

Sometimes it's almost like boxing isn't a sport and it's all about business......

You are wrong. The casual mass doesn't care much about the Eastern-European methodical technician. They care more about the freakshows. Mayweather vs McGregor was no less a joke.

Yeah but the masses know Usyk via the AJ fights (not to mention Fury’s constant videos about him before completely bottling it ) whereas MMA is still relatively niche in the U.K. at least. Globally you might well be correct, although Mayweather and McGregor were both massive box office stars in their own right so not sure that’s a fair comparison.

Boxing is a dangerous enough sport as it is. Pitting a non boxer in the ring with a top pro boxer is shocking.

What if the unthinkable happens and Ngannou gets seriously hurt?
