Eddie Mustafa Muhammad vs Carlos Deleon
Eddie Mustafa Muhammad vs Carlos Deleon
15,190, who wins?
Re: Eddie Mustafa Muhammad vs Carlos Deleon
This fight is very difficult to call because Muhammad never fought his best when fighting above 180 lbs. His best fights, obviously, were at 175 lbs. Almost anytime Eddie put on weight to box at cruiser or heavyweight, he was sluggish.
The only (possibly) impressive win by Muhammad at over 180 lbs was his decision over Jerry Celestine in 1983. Eddie weighed 185 lbs, Celestine just 173 lbs. Both guys were rated at light-heavyweight at the time.
Of course had Mustafa fought DeLeon while both weighed 175 lbs, Eddie would win, probably decisively. But DeLeon excelled at cruiserweight, not light-heavyweight. And Eddie was the opposite: he dominated at light-heavyweight, and looked mediocre in the higher weight categories.
The real question is how good might Muhammad have been at 190 lbs if he trained hard, was in peak condition, and lived up to his potential. I just don't know what to say.
