As for Shalom he's mediocre at best. 4-5 about right. Seems very wooden personality for a promoter too. But he's young in the game he's still only in his twenties right?

I still give him a chance to be a decent promoter.
I think it's terrible strategy for Sky to have a deal with only only one promotor.
I think the promoter kind of needs that garrentee so they can go out and get a stable ect.... but that said its not working.. I think sky should have boxing every Saturday night.... top dog (ben in this case) gets first go at it, if boxxer have a show thats the show sky play... but if boxxer has a week off they pick up small shows cheap...

Listen to his Podcast with Tris Dixon...Shalom comes across as candid and enthusiastic.

Apparently he toiled away on the small hall circuit under the guise of Carl Greaves' license.

In equivalent terms of boxing he's a "progressive" ! Which is every reason why he should be shown the door as quickly as possible. Probably another scourge on British boxing along the lines of Adam Smith.

He's got ideas where boxing should be heading, but what he clearly fails to grasp is his vision isn't what got him into boxing...something he supposedly loves 🤦‍♂️

Do genuine boxing fans a huge favour Ben....and f*ck off !

Promoters should really only get critiqued on what they deliver.

In my opinion the first 6 months of U.K. boxing on Sky was the worst opening 6 months to a year that I can remember.

In July we had the Savannah Marshall card at the start of the month (which wasn’t particularly good) and there’s been nothing since. The only thing seemingly firm is the Eubank/Smith PPV at the start of September.

If that’s the case then we could be looking at well over 2 months of no U.K. shows on regular Sky Sports.

thinking he can make money out of the likes of Lauren Price, Okolie, Buatsi and Artingsall shows he doesn't know what people want, who cares about the hundreds of ex olympians now ?
He has delivered some absolute tripe on Sky and must have spent a fortune doing so. He's got nothing lined up which is exciting either

Shalom, forcing the women's boxing scene upon the fans isn't going to help.

Marshall, the Scouse bird, Dubois etc, they're nowhere near as exciting to watch as he makes out. At least have decent fights on the same cards but he just feeds us pure sh_te cards.

He needs sacking, get back to the small halls with Mick Helliet

Like someone said.. they probably have to put certain amount of world title fights, but it doesn't specify mens world title..

So they just shove women's world titles on.

I’d imagine Sky want to have women’s boxing on the platform. They, like DAZN on some shows, just have too much and the bulk of what they have are mismatches.

Price, Artingstall and Dubois have been in one sided developmental fights whilst Natasha Jonas had avoided fights in her natural weight to fight far beatable women in divisions much higher. I don’t hate women’s boxing but I have no desire to see her fight someone like her last opponent. If she fights a Mayer, Harper rematch or someone meaningful then I’ll watch but to have the absolute mismatch against Wyatt followed not long after by the poor quality of the Marshall fight doesn’t help anyone.

Unless the fights are real good on paper they shouldn’t have more than one female fight on the main card.

Boxing is always quiet during the summer, so that's not REALLY a proper criticism.
I think his output has been okay but short of 'good'.
I don't really watch women's boxing in the same way that I don't often find myself able to summon enthusiasm for tiny little boxers.

It is disappointing. 33 fighters are listed on their website under the Boxxer banner and only one event with tickets for sale - Smith Eubank.

Its not that long till September and if anyone is having a decent fight it needs to be signed and boxers in training unless they plan to call in old TBA

So we had the Savannah Marshall show on July 1st and the next confirmed Boxxer show on regular Sky Sports is Buatsi vs Azeez late October.

I wonder what’s going on.

Shalom mentioned that there may be a show at the very end of September but even if that’s the case it’ll mean no U.K. show on regular Sky Sports in 12 weeks.

I get that there used to be a break in the boxing calendar for the summer holidays but never thought it was that long.

Thankfully we’ve had Top Rank serving up some decent shows.

I know we’ve also got the PPV but it’s crazy to have so little U.K. boxing on the regular sports channels.

Looks like there's a York Hall bill in September, Viddal Reily v Quarless for the English title.

But, yeah it's not exactly a packed schedule.

Ben Shalom has not had it easy.

He is in my opinion putting together a team that know what they are doing.

Boxxer employs a bloke many will know, John Wichusen as the Head Of Boxing who was previously Matchrooms head of boxing and a person who is respected by the majority in boxing. Another recent addition to the team is a bloke called Ed Roff who will take care of the event management side of things. Roff previously worked for Sauerland & WBSS.

Boxing is a **** of a sport to work in with rivals tripping over themselves to stitch each other up.

The phrase “ its never too late” I think could apply to Ben Shalom … he has made mistakes but recent additions to his team tells me all is not lost.

Mate, you say he’s not had it easy but he’s been given the contract to supply U.K. boxing from the biggest and most well established boxing and sports provider in the U.K. Just like Eddie had it.

That’s as easy start as you can possibly get when you’ve only promoted a handful of smaller shows.

I thought they did a good job in the first 12 months with Khan/Brook on PPV and Taylor/Catterall and Eubank/Williams on regular Sky but, for me, this year has been really poor.

The last U.K. show on regular Sky was July 1st and the next confirmed show is October 21st. They may have a team of good people but what are they actually doing? If they’re planning another U.K. show in September then why hasn’t it been announced and promoted yet?

Good post.

I fully understand the points you are making pal.

When you are as young as Shalom, nothing could
Have prepared him for the nasty, back stabbing, thoroughly c*ntish behaviour which will have come his way:

Example …. I remember when I worked for Dennis Hobson & the first Hatton fight in Sheffield… we had a number of bomb scares at the hotel, we had one in the early hours, lucky for us we moved Ricky to another hotel.

Sabotaging of fights by getting opponents withdraw on the day before and sometimes on the day of the fight.

Fighters coming in deliberately overweight.

Organising a show for a certain date for a rival
Promoter to announce a show on the same date.

Treating away fighters like shit to get a reaction by offering sh*t changing rooms.

Being awkward about transport to and from
The venue.

There’s loads more.

Yeah - I get all that. Boxing is a tough business but I have more sympathy with the smaller promoters who don’t have tv networks than someone who’s got a long term deal with the biggest sports network in the country.

None of that really explains why there have been so few quality shows on regular Sky Sports this year though.

Shalom openly went after several guys who’d worked heavily with Matchroom. They’ve done great by CBS but did they really expect Matchroom not to try and poach some of their guys? Or make things difficult for them?

They probably fed him to Okolie to get beat in front of a big crowd but he’s had 3 fights with Boxxer, all 3 fights at home and fought and won a world title at his home football ground.

Whether there was intent for it to happen or not, he’s done great since being there after Matchroom failed to deliver a home fight for him. He probably has messed things up a little for Boxxer (they were clearly hoping for Okolie/Riakporhe) and now CBS is healing up his cut whilst Okolie is waiting for the date on the rematch.

Shalom is forcing his fighters to pull out of purse bids, signing boring fighters Hearn wasn't willing to keep, Shalom is failing massively. He has sky sports behind him and still can't 8 shows in a year

There’s some good posts - don’t necessarily agree with them ….

Please remember Shalom started with virtually f*ck all going into a Sky contract so he had to pick “Out of contract fighters”. So the journey he has been is IMO ok.

Please remember those responsible for quality control for boxing on Sky sit in the Sky Sports offices … it is them who should have been firmer with Shalom & his team.

Whilst I have negative thoughts concerning the Sky Sports Boxing team they have brought some great fights from across the pond.

Another point I have repeatedly stated and its one that makes my blood boil … why the f*ck was Shalom given an EXCLUSIVEcontract? They had a real chance of bringing on board other promoters.

So again, its Sky Boxing wlho are to blame, not BenShalom.

It says it's exclusive to Shalom but Mick Hennessy is playing some kind of a roll here and if he isn't why are so many of his fighters appearing on Boxxer cards. Chamberlain, Eggington, all Hughie Fury's collapsed fights.
