I landed up with a 115-113 Hughes score but maybe not as much a robbery as I was predicting bit still a bit of a gift, Hughes landed more, countered better, was landing the effective punches, countered well to the head and the body, there wasn't much in the rounds but it looked to me it only Hughes who was implementing his gameplan, Kambosos is terrible, his win over Lopez is more unbelievable by the fight, he never jabbed, didn't look like he had a strategy, fought with no urgency, just landed clipping shots, he did finish better but not a world class fighter by any means, feel for Hughes that was a robbery and I don't say that a lot especially with a 115-113 card

What a rip-off.

Gotta say gorgeous George is one of the worst matched top-level fighters I’ve seen in recent times.

After his sensational Cinderella man performance against Teo Lopez, which should’ve got a homecoming big win in Oz, catapulting him into becoming a box office star down under, instead they matched him against a guy he was never gonna beat ( maybe they had to take it as a mandatory I can’t remember ) and then the boneheads matched him against the same guy again!!

Then putting him in with a cagey crafty Southpaw like maxi Hughes.. in Arizona?! well another dumbass decision.. and he was lucky to get that win. That’s for sure.

While i kind of agree... i also strongly disagree....

Haney had the WBC belt, so Kambo fought him for undisputed... managed to get it in aus, then managed to put in a rematch clause that was also in aus... giving him 2 chances at home for undisputed where although haney is all wrong for him he could potentialy win by robbery or lucky punch. (he got silly cash too).

Maxi hughes was a final elliminator for the IBF, and although maxi is a bad style for him he is significantly worse than other top guys and has a bonus ibo belt.. the IBF belt also has the weakest number 1 guy, so having beat maxi (all be it with some luck) he now likely gets a very very winnable world title shot which if he wins purse bids he can take to aus making it even more winnable.

Ah ok, when you put it like that, I see what you mean. Still, If I was managing him, I would’ve given him a winnable fight in Australia against some come forward slugger and build him up with a few crowd pleasing defences. I mean, that Lopez fight was life n death… anyway, shoot for the stars I guess.

Tough on Maxi that, thought he boxed really nicely and picked his moments, the way he maintained distance was on point. Would have been a massive win for his career after a great run of form, George had plenty of trouble with him and struggled to get off all night I felt.

Kambosos is mince, his win over Lopez is truly one of the best wins in recent memory, if he wasn't a former champ and Hughes was a known name he pisses the decision, I generously gave him 5 rounds, all debatable

Kambo got multi of millions for either fight; was definitely the right call to fight Haney is Australia.

After the Triller purse debacle it was good to see George get amazing money.

Where does George go next? Gervonta, Shakur, Loma and Haney above him, might give Loma run for his money if he can fight like he did v Teo but he's not beating the other lads.

GFK is below world class if you ask me..

Lopez should never have been in that ring that night.

But it is what is it, and he owns a good win over him.

GFK's resume for his last few fights are just split or majority decisions.

The corruption in boxing judging is beyond a disgrace. Nothing can be done about it.

Hughes was barely British level at superfeather and lost fighting for the central area title at lightweight. Does anyone suspect something smells about his late career improvement?

I thought Maxi edged it but it is clear they want George to win a title again (after Devin relinquishes), maybe in Australia. Kambosos can only do one fight.

I don’t think he took his boxing career all that seriously at one bit. He worked full time & didn’t live the life. There’s always a chance it could be something untoward but I’d be very surprised with Maxi

Scored it 115-113 to Hughes but if anything I think I was generous to Kambosos in my scoring. It felt like Hughes won the majority of his rounds clearer than Kambosos did.

I think last night also is a great example of how punch scoring isn’t that useful. Kambosos took a lot of jabs & power punches flush & had his head rocked where as when Kambosos landed power shots Hughes often rode them or partially blocked them but on a piece of paper it looks like Kambosos has landed nearly as many telling blows.

The 117-111 judge needs striking off. Up there with Floyd Canelo 114-114 & Callum Smith 117-111 against John Ryder. Ridiculous

I think it's tough shit on Lopez. Nobody forced him in there. Kambosos is a live opponent for anyone, always in great shape and very tough. He can still make good money, he's well backed in Australia but without a belt he's going to struggle to get someone to go over. Lomachenko might fancy it if they pay him.

Exactly. Just like its tough shit on Loma to lose to Lopez going in there with an injured shoulder.

Not to mention he was always talked of as a "gym fighter" - had levels in training he couldn't produce under the lights.
That and being a late bloomer - it's not like he's added some fearsome power or engine to what he had. :shame:

Way i seen it Hughes perhaps dropped 2 rounds in the first 8 winning the other 6 clearly , just simply outboxed him , i thouhht the corner work was excellent has well up till then , after that i could;nt hear what they said , BUT from rnd 9 on i started getting concerned he was throwing it away 9 to 12 he just took his foot off the gas , Ok he was;nt getting hit much or hit clean but he was'nt winning the last 4 has clear has previous rnds , its america they like and favor aggresion he just did'nt show any urgency Kambosas did he was conming forward abitt missing a lot but never the less the aggressor , Said at the time its gonna be a draw Hughes just threw it away

A draw i could understand but he never lost no way and 17 -11 is another disgrace ,but what do or did they expect Kambosa is t/was the home fighter he's still under contract to top rank , can't put a 3 time loser up for main event next tim can they , Hughes and his camp should of had that at the back of there mind at all times .

Like i said the corner work i heard early was excellent but later i hope they did'nt tell him to ease of play it safe ,

What they gonna do with Kambosas , his lack of skills at that level stands out like a sore thumb , the guys footwork is attrocias and its too late to teach him now his corner kept telling him tolet his right hand go , but how can he when he continually makes basic mistakes with his feet , continually moving his right foot behind his left creating too big a gap tomake up , just basic footwork he has not mastered, got mestuffed how he's reached the heights he has , most good boxers will outbox him clearly

I wonder how many southpaws Kambosos had sparred in preparation for Hughes and what quality they were. I say that because Kambosos looked all at sea from the first bell.

Kambosos wasn't trying to keep his front foot outside Hughes' front foot and he was continually rotating to his right - basically into Hughes' power hand.

Key weapons against a southpaw are of course the right hand lead and the left hook. I don't remember too many left hooks from Kambosos and when he tried to throw right hands he was continually too far away to land.

directly befor i do not know... he was mannys sparring partner for hundreds of rounds suposidly back in the day. watching that fight it makes me think that sparring must of been pretty grim vs manny.

Good point about him sparring with Pacquiao. Can't believe he didn't at least apply the basics against Hughes.
