Post by davie »

Teofimo is not listed on the 140lb rankings and showing as inactive despite fighting and winning a super lightweight title

Was it over a year ago? That's probably the reason.

Christ Gil, do you pay any attention to boxing?

Nowadays? I really don't.

At one point I could've quoted you Chapter and Verse who's fighting who, when, what time, who's on the undercard...Etc.

As time has gone on Boxing has made itself a little less accessible to me, and I got tired of bending over backward to try to run it down.

When pressed by the WBO regarding his actual intentions, Lopez recanted his retirement announcement and confirmed that he will continue as the WBO world junior welterweight champion.

Yeah I asked about this in the rankings section a few days ago. Ok, retired fighters aren't listed but think about what that could mean.

Say there's a huge #1 vs. #2 battle, and #1 wins a very close fight and immediately announces his retirement.

Then in the rankings all we see is #2 now becomes #1 (???) and #1 disappears from the rankings (???)

And then 6 months later when #1 reconsiders and says he's coming back...suddenly he's #1 again? After all his last fight was only 6 months ago. Or maybe he just has to schedule a fight to pop in at #1?

Either way, this looks odd, and when retrospective rankings are done, then what? If we want a snapshot of the rankings at time X years ago, either we see some retired guys there, or the DB has to keep track of who has announced their retirement in order to "cull" those guys from the list.

Retired guys should just be treated like inactive fighters, keep them in until they become inactive. Or maybe keep them 6 months instead of 12, i don't know.
