Gibbons certainly looked like he had a lot of ability. However, he didn't do much nearly enough offensively.
I have always read that the crowd was so disappointing for this fight, only about 7000 in a big arena. Going by some of the camera views, it seemed like the crowd was much better than that.

I wonder if there is now a historical marker where the ring was there in Shelby Montana?
( which was about a thousand miles away from any large urban city in 1923 )

I also thought Dempsey did pretty well at cutting off the ring. Just thought at some point that Gibbons would have gotten more aggressive. Still, pretty good effort for Dempsey considering he had not fought in two years. A couple of months later he fought Firpo.
