Butterbean To Return to The Ring Next Year: “I’m Gonna Fight One Last Fight”
Butterbean To Return to The Ring Next Year: “I’m Gonna Fight One Last Fight”
It turns out we may not have seen the last of cult boxing hero Eric Esch, AKA Butterbean. The 56-year-old man-mountain last fought back in 2013, yet The Bean says he is coming back, “for one last fight” next year. Taking to social media, Butterbean says he has dropped a ton of weight, so much so that he is “at fight weight” already. Butterbean says he has a podcast coming out with more info on his planned ring return.
“I’m working with DKP (Diamond Dallas Page) to get up walking and running around again and I’m feeling in the best shape I ever have,” Butterbean wrote. “I’m at fight weight. You’ll have to listen to my podcast coming up to find out exactly how much weight I’ve lost, but I haven’t weighed this in over 20 years. The big announcement is I’m gonna fight one last fight. It’s gonna be one year from now. Jake Paul, if you’re ready, I’m here for you, my friend. Let’s get it on, me and you, Jake Paul.”
I can hear the groans now.
Butterbean had a big following back in the day, and though his act wasn’t to everyone’s taste, The Bean could fight, and he could whack. But now, at age 56? It seems like everyone’s coming back just lately – what with Mike Tyson, Roy Jones and Evander Holyfield having fought in exhibition bouts, and with Marco Antonio Barrera and Ricky Hatton set to do likewise in July.
But Butterbean appears to be referring to a real fight for his return. Can you stand more Butterbean action? Will you watch if Butterbean does fight Jake Paul? Just about now, plenty of fighters seem to be inclined to join the party while pretty much saying to heck with the sport’s reputation.
For the record, Butterbean, “The King of the Four-Rounders,” is currently 77-10-4(58) and he lost his last three fights, the last one via corner retirement. On a scale of 1 to 10, how shocking would a Butterbean comeback be?

It wouldn't be the least bit shocking. What would be shocking is if he beat anybody of any mild significance.

Good for his health if he has lost a lot of weight, not great for his health to fight again at 56.

This is basically the way I see it and analyze it as well.
Would've been Super Interesting if Butterbean had been able to get down to around 280 during his prime.
There was Real Actual Potential, Way back in the day. Where The Bean could've Really made a truly legit name for himself amongst the various fringe and gate-keeper contenders.
He had that punchers chance, along with the deceptively quick swarmer style, Alot like a Tony Galento type basically.
With that said, as far as nowadays, I'm thinking, Go for Hollywood. Hook up with Stallone and company.
The Expendables 4: The Bean joins the Crew.
They're still working on this flick from what I noticed on imdb.com.
Hollywood,...Stallone !!...Go get The Bean for an Epic Scene !

a butterbean podcast could actually be interesting tbh, he's had a unique career

Hope it's only an exhibition.
And happy to hear he has lost some weight.
The guy was usually entertaining, in a Babic sort of way.

If he was to return I would rather it be against someone in his same age bracket like Mike Tyson, but... It would be pretty hilarious if he did get a fight with either Jake or Logan Paul and legitimately knocked one of them out just like he did Bart Gunn.

Butterbean vs a Paul brother? Take your pick, I'd watch him with either.

He stepped on the scales to see them register just over 303lbs. That represents a staggering loss of over 200lbs, and so buoyed is he by the turnaround that the fearsome fighter now wants to return to the squared circle.

to this..

"I went through a stage where I was looking at the end of my life - not that I was going to kill myself, but I was getting down, I was way overweight and just feeling down," he explained to The Sun . And should he comeback, he's honing in on two potential opponents.
“ Jake Paul runs his mouth too much, he’s never fought nobody, I would love to fight him. But I think people would like to see me and Tyson go at it, which would be a hell of a draw."

Re: Butterbean To Return to The Ring Next Year: “I’m Gonna Fight One Last Fight”
seriously check yourself if you think this man should have one more legit fight, against whomever.
if he wants to take part in an exhibition like tyson/jones jr., where it's clearly and contractually agreed upon not to attack the head with anything more than a couple of pulled pity pat 'punches', why not?
but it's obvious he shouldn't get medical clearance anywhere in the whole frikkin world for a real boxing contest. without any discussion.
who in his right mind wants to see 60 year old EX-fighters getting whacked in the head full force?
if they would've kept all the wit, power, the skills and the mental strength that made them great, still their legs are gone for a long time and they just aren't fit to defend themselves properly anymore which is a?major requirement to let anybody enter a professional boxing ring.

"Eric Esch" isn't Butterbean anymore. He's just Eric now. Or "Mr Esch" if he prefers that.
With that said, Good on him Losing all that Extra weight. Which was also obviously , "Life Threatening Weight".
I don't want to seem Disrespectful, especially if Eric himself is reading this post, but seriously, He Needs to Always Wear a Shirt !!! For the Love of Beans, Please !!!
Also, Yeah, No to Boxing Anyone even remotely decent anymore !!
Unless Maybe versus Charlie Z.
