A boxing legend died today 37 years ago......Rocky Marciano
37 years ago Aug. 31 1969......Boxing Legend Rocky Marciano died in a tragic plane crash when his plane left newton, Iowa. RIP champ the boxing community will never forget you or what you have done for the sport. Rocky Marciano, one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time and one of the classiest people in boxing history
* a sad peice many people dont know. rocky was decapitated in the plane crash. his head was taken off during the crash. thats why he had a closed casket during the funeral. very sad. its hard to believe marcianos rock chinned and brick wall like head could be taken off.

Now iono if this is an 'urban legend' but i heard that after he died and they did the autopsy that it showed his skull was 2" thick, just like Julio Cesar Chavez.
but in ways i think it's false, as it has to be some scheme some person made to say 'That's why Marciano was unbeatable' because of his skull thickness and not his actual boxing skills and abilities.
R.I.P Rocky Marciano
Don't care what any of these guys say, you are next to Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali as the Greatest champion in HW history, and number one in my eyes.
He would have been 83 years old if he were alive today.
If his skull was really 2" thick, he'd have the brain the size of a chimp's.
no no no if his skull was 2" thick he'd have the brain the size of zab judah's.
i second the words of IRISHRUFUSMURPHY's post.
RIP rock. i was too young to see you fight but i remember the tragic news like it was yesterday.

yea rocky was always enjoyable and interesting to listen to on his main event show when he commentated on matches. rocky always seemed so honesty about himself and about other fighters in his commentating.

What I always thought was interesting in the MAIN EVENT shows that Marciano had was that he would view some of his own fights and at certain moments in some of those fight reels he would go "That hurt me" which is ironic because Marciano never ever seemed to be hurt in any of his fights, he always pressed forward.
