Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
10 Rounds Heavyweight Bout
Same thing in my Prime Mike Tyson vs. Danny Williams subject, McBride retired the shot Tyson in 6 rounds to end Iron Man's career. If McBride face the prime Mike Tyson who dominated the heavyweights in the second half of the 1980s, then Tyson would blast him with heavy body shots that would hurt McBride slowly and then either knocks McBride out with left hooks and right hands in 4 rounds. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
Tyson would start fast and keep McBride on the back foot. McBride weathers the storm, then puts the heat on Mike mid rounds as the bigger guy. Mike outworks him down the stretch for a points win.
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
What on earth is going on here?
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
A prime Tyson would stop McBride within four rounds. Easily. McBride was simply too easy to hit.
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
Prime Tyson would definitely last a bit longer. The size difference would be too big however and McBride would likely win by a late stoppage.

Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
Is this a sarcastic post? I can't imagine the size bothering a prime Tyson at all given the massive discrepancy in ability. Frankly some middleweights could probably beat McBride
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
At heavyweight, size doesn't matter if the bigger guy can't block or withstand his opponent's bombs. That's especially true if the smaller guy has crushing power, blistering hand speed, and sophisticated offensive skills.
Nothing against Big Kevin, who won a spot in boxing history by KO'ing an aged Tyson. But he would have been annihilated if he ever faced a prime Iron Mike.

Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
tyson tries valiantly, but the long sharp jab and smooth movement of mcbride keep him at bay, slowly chipping away, and then mcbride imposes himself on a weakened tyson for a grinding tko around 8-10
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
If you are talking about a shot Mike Tyson that retired by McBride, then yes he would, but you were thinking about the prime Mike Tyson that you think McBride would stop him, then you are sadly mistaken. I know it's your opinion, but I can't take your opinion seriously logically because it's laughable to me.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑10 Aug 2023, 12:01 tyson tries valiantly, but the long sharp jab and smooth movement of mcbride keep him at bay, slowly chipping away, and then mcbride imposes himself on a weakened tyson for a grinding tko around 8-10
Prime Mike Tyson would take McBride out in earlier rounds from rounds 1 to 4 with his heavy bombs.
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
He‘d have to get inside that jab first. McBride had a longer reach.
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
I have to concur with this. Tyson always struggled with particularly tall guys, which Kevin was. I'm thinking Mike gives him a hard time through 6 rounds. Kevin hugs, and puts his weight on Mike wearing him down not unlike what a Lennox Lewis might do, and stops him in the 10th round.

McBride lost to guys no heavier than Tyson. This idea his size is a problem is insane.gilgamesh wrote: ↑11 Aug 2023, 13:47I have to concur with this. Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
Yeah, while some say that size matters, but sometimes size don't matter. Their opinions that they are underestimating prime Mike Tyson out of hate towards him and they like they never watch his fights against taller men in his prime. Tyson and his history struggling to fight tall guys are b.s. Tyson was known for slipping jabs against taller fighters who had a long reach and setting them up with power punches to wear them down until they were put down for the count. Tyson beat Mitch "Blood" Green who stood 6'5" with an 82 inches in reach, he beat Jose Ribalta who stood 6'5" with an 80 inches in reach, he beat James "Bonecrusher" Smith who stood 6'4" with an 82 inches in reach, he beat Tony Tucker who stood 6'5" with an 82 inches in reach, he beat a 38 year old Larry Holmes who stood 6'3" with an 81 inches in reach, he beat Tony Tubbs who stood 6'3" with either an 79 or 81 inches in reach, he beat Frank Bruno who stood 6'3" with an 82 inches in reach, he beat Carl "The Truth" Williams who stood 6'4" with a long 85 inches in reach and he beat Donovan "Razor" Ruddock who stood 6'3" with an 82 inches in reach. Green, Bonecrusher Smith, Tucker, Bruno and Ruddock had a long reach as McBride at 82 inches in reach, but Williams had a long 85 inches in reach like I said before. Also, Tyson's speed is the key to beat the bigger and slower men in his prime.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2023, 15:29McBride lost to guys no heavier than Tyson. Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
it's not just the size, it's also those quick hands and olympic level movements of mcbride's. he's all wrong for mike at any stage - can outbox him early and then grind him down with strength when mike tires and wears down
kev just has tyson's number i think

This is it - McBride went to the Olympics for a reason.

Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
He was never more than journeyman level. If he actually possessed attributes to trouble Tyson he would have achieved more in his era. His durability is highly suspect given his many kayo losses to smaller menmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑11 Aug 2023, 16:16 it's not just the size, it's also those quick hands and olympic level movements of mcbride's. he's all wrong for mike at any stage - can outbox him early and then grind him down with strength when mike tires and wears down

Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
If it was a prime Tyson that might be relevant but obviously it wasn't so of course it isn't. It would be like saying Berbick always beats Ali.
Given how far past it Tyson was McBride would have had to absolutely annihilate him for us to conclude he would win prime vs prime but Tyson was doing okay until he ran out of energy
Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
A lot of Tyson‘s opponents were beaten before the first bell went. Not Kevin though, he came to win as did Holyfield.
McBride always had that mindset. He was a fearless guy.

Re: Prime Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride
Cojimar, they were ignoring what I post this subject earlier and they may making comments out of hate against Mike Tyson. They ignore the fact that they want to ignore Tyson's prime and they focusing on the actual fight that McBride fought a shot Tyson. Since it their opinion, we don't have a problem, but the problem is that they underestimating the prime Tyson and how good he was in his best days.

You must not have seen other posts of his. He doesn't understand the concept of a boxer's prime. At all. He just completely ignores the stages the fighters career.scorpio83 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2023, 14:40If you are talking about a shot Mike Tyson that retired by McBride, then yes he would, but you were thinking about the prime Mike Tyson that you think McBride would stop him, then you are sadly mistaken.
