Floyd Patterson's 22 private fights behind closed doors

Post by dawudboxer »

Hi guys,

Does anyone know about the 22 private fights Floyd Patterson had behind closed doors in training camp when he was on his way up? Cus said due to the IBC stopping Floyd from being able to get fights he was forced to get Floyd opponents to have real fights without headguards, and without a referee or judges during camp. Two of the opponents were ranked fighter Harold Carter and his future opponent Archie McBride. Floyd knocked out 22 of the opponents and most were by one punch KO.

Was'nt there a 'The Sparring Partners" of Floyd Patterson"
thread on this forum ?
if so, The answer could be in there somewhere.
I had read somewhere, that Floyd Patterson went "All Out" in his sparring sessions.

Floyd Patterson was allegedly knocked down by MW Jose Torres in a sparring session
at Arrowhead Springs Training Camp in CA in August 1958.
when Patterson was training to fight Roy Cut n Shoot Harris
Torres landed a short right flush on Floyd Patterson's jaw, Patterson 'slipped" to one knee.
( both were wearing head-gear)

There is a brief mention in Floyds book "Victory over myself", where he describes sparring sessions where Cus tells sparring partners to go all out and try to kayo Floyd. Julio Mederos is mentioned as one of the opponents.
