Question About the ABCCS

Post by ccollins44 »

Kind of a random question here. I work for a sportsbook and am currently going through our regulations regarding boxing offerings in the various states we operate in. One of the rules some states have is "Must be sanctioned by a member of the Association of Boxing Commission and Combative Sports". I assumed this would cover all state athletic commissions but I noticed that the Arkansas State Athletic Commission, the Louisiana Boxing & Wrestling Commission, the Missouri Office of Athletics, and the Ohio Athletic Commission are not listed in the ABCCS's contact directory. Are these commissions not members of the ABCCS even though they are state athletic commissions?

There is no federal law which forces commissions to join the ABC. All state and native american commission are autonomous authorities and only subject to the law contained in the Boxing Safety Act. I think maybe MI and NJ are also not members at the moment. It varies year to year depending upon the commissioners.

Cool. I knew there was nothing requiring them to join but was surprised to see that they hadn't. At least on their website right now the ABCCS has NJ and MI listed in their directory so unless it hasn't been updated, they seem to be members

It's possible but I didn't see either Joel or Rhonda at the convention.
