Davey Moore-John David Jackson

Moore was one of my favourite fighters of the 80´s. Duran beating ruined him though he did manage to stop a washed up Benitez in 2 before being stopped by Buster Drayton in another title tilt.

Moore scored two official knockdowns but 1st was courtesy of a headbutt and the 2nd more of a slip. Jackson boxed beautifully and almost stopped Davey in the 4th. Moore came on a bit after that but couldn´t land his right hand as Jackson landed his southpaw jabs all night. Good performance from Jackson. Davey Moore would score two low key wins before dying in a tragic accident.

Mo Hussein-Lloyd Christie

Good little battle. Commonwealth lightweight champion,Mo, goes up to light-welter to challenge recently crowned British champ Lloyd Christie.

Lloyd is the brother of Errol Christie but whose career was completely different, 16 loses at that point (only 17 wins) but a wealth of experience fighting abroad including a win over then undefeated future 2-time Ebu Super-Welter champion and twice World title challenger (even rocked McCallum in one round). He drew with future champion Terry Marsh and koed former Ebu champ Colin Powers too.

Like Errol, Lloyd was a terrific puncher but seemed to have a better chin. Destroyed Tony McKenzie in 3 in last fight to win the British title. Hussein looked great in winning the Commonwealth title from the wily Langton Tinago and his come forward body punching style was a real fan favourite.

Mo started attacking from the start but struggled to push Lloyd back. The champion slowly ramped up the pressure. Mo showed heart but his punches weren´t hurting the bigger champion who dropped the iron jawed challenger in the 10th. Hussein should his courage as he came out for the 12th looking for a ko but walked into a pile driving right which sent him careening thru the ropes. Another quick right made sure that Mo was sent outside of the ropes. The fight was stopped straight away

Christie would destroy the undefeated Chris Blake in one round to win the Lonsdale belt outright. He would get a Ebu title shot but get stopped by tough Frenchman Tek Nkalankete and after losing his British title to Clinton McKenzie revert back to being a journeyman. By the way Errol Christie never won or even get to fight for any professional title.

Mo Hussein would get outpointed by unknown future WBO welter title challenger Angel Beltre in his next bout but rebounded with 3 Commonwealth title defenses including a terrific win over the big punching Mark Reefer. He lost his title on cuts to Pat Doherty before retiring after 1 farewell fight.

As a big fan of Scott Harrison in the day the idea of him both excited me and scared me a little. Reckon he would have fornicating wrecked Harrison, if he didn't end up getting in the bother he did.

Aye him and Harrison was mooted for a while eh, I'd never actually seen Guzman at that point, just kept hearing about Harrison fighting him before Guzman kept failing to make weight and what not

Thanks. I became a big fan of Reefer after his fight with Mo Hussein who was just to big and strong for him.

He went on a great run after that defeat to pick up the Commonwealth title at Super-feather from the classy John Sichula (terrific puncher who destroyed Lester Ellis in 4 and tough Tinago in 5). Unfortunately Daniel Londas proved too much for the Ebu title and Pedro Gutierrez´s 12th round ko of Reefer finished him as a contender.

Always fun to watch, Reefer, Daho, Hussein, Pat Doherty, Kevin Pritchard, Havard, Gibiliru and senior Pat Cowdell slug it out in the Super-feathers.

Nah i never knew that, Thaxton was always good value, fought anyone and loved a scrap, Richie Woodhall only gave Augustus a round going into the 7th when it was stopped
