Foreman vs Peralta 1. I couldn't find the rematch.
*Fight was far more one-sided than Cosell suggested. Scored 5-4-1, 7-3, and 9-1. 7-3 likely closest to reality, IMO.
*Fight served as blueprint for Ali and Jimmy Young beating Foreman.
*Much like the blueprint Ali used to beat Sonny Liston by doing what Eddie Machen did. Liston beat Machen by decision, but Eddie went the distance.
* Crowd booed the hell out of Foreman. He was hated for some reason back then.

He did the stare down but in interviews he was usually friendly.

the re-match of Foreman vrs Peralta was shown live on closed-circuit back then.Tony1244 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2023, 12:47 Foreman vs Peralta 1. I couldn't find the rematch.

it sounds like it may be lost as I have never heard of any video or film of it anywhere
Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Nope. Frazier was not booed like Foreman. Neither was Patterson. Seemed as though I was the only person who liked Foreman in the 1970s.Caractacus wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 12:51Foreman was booed back then, because he was the HW Champion of the World and not Ali.

Watch Foreman-Frazier 2. Frazier was cheered, Foreman was virtually unanimously booed. I was cheering for Foreman @ a closed circuit venue.Caractacus wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 12:51Foreman was booed back then, because he was the HW Champion of the World and not Ali.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
I've always wondered why Foreman was so loathed at that time. Was it the American flag waving in Mexico City? I hope not, because that would be a stupid reason to hate him. He never criticized the athletes who raised their fists during the national anthem. Maybe he was just perceived as a bully.oogiebe wrote: ↑26 Aug 2023, 22:32You maverick you!Tony1244 wrote: ↑26 Aug 2023, 12:30Watch Foreman-Frazier 2. He purposefully portrayed an image of a surly bullying person. hit Roman while on the canvas. Beat up the beloved Joe Frazier, etc. He was embittered after catching flak for the flag waving at the olympics and turned his disappointment inward and created the mean shell of armor to protect himself.Tony1244 wrote: ↑27 Aug 2023, 10:11I've always wondered why Foreman was so loathed at that time. True, I guess that was before the time when anti heroes like Stone Cold or Johnny Lawrence were considered cool.oogiebe wrote: ↑27 Aug 2023, 10:38He purposefully portrayed an image of a surly bullying person. hit Roman while on the canvas. I think he may have been more popular being surly now. His interviews in the early 1970s were kind of strange. He'd say arrogant things such as, "Nothing to do, a child could do it." But he also said stuff such like, "I was glad to get out of there with a victory," in fights that he won in a minute.
