McBride vs Thomas
McBride vs Thomas
Gentlemen, the battle of the quick jabs and big right hands. A peak Kevin McBride vs Pinklon Thomas. How does it go down?

agree, just look at how big kev dealt with tyson compared to how pinky got splatted
mcbride not only has the size, but those quick hands and feet to catch up to pinky

Re: McBride vs Thomas
Prime vs prime? Another bad match for McBride. Pinkie dominates with his excellent left-jab and eventually connects with power rights to win by stoppage. It would go five to eight rounds, IMO.
There's simply too much of a talent and skill differential here for Kevin to have much of a chance. McBride was really just an advanced clubfighter, whereas Thomas was one of the world's best ten heavyweights hands down.
I would give McBride a better shot except that his disadvantages in speed, flexibility, and skill mean he'd have an impossible time landing punches. He'd be eating Pinkie's left-jab all night.
Now, if we're talking about the over-the-hill version of Thomas (who got KO'd in by Morrison in 1990), that's a different story. I suppose a prime McBride (who beat Tyson) might very well beat a burned out Thomas.
But prime-on-prime, Thomas wins big and easy.

Tyson may have landed some good shots against McBride, but I seriously doubt those were Mike's best punches. Don't overlook that at the time, Tyson was 38 y.o. going on 50. He didn't have the reflexes or punch delivery speed he'd possessed in his prime.
As for Thomas, he would have overwhelmed McBride with a series of powerful rights to the jaw. We're not talking about comparing Tyson to Thomas based on one punch KO power.
Re: McBride vs Thomas
Buster Douglas and Evander Holyfield both took as good a punch as Tyson was capable of throwing, and still beat him.
Re: McBride vs Thomas
Thomas in his prime was a terrific fighter. His demons got the best of him. At his best, this one isn't even close.

Re: McBride vs Thomas
I'm sure Douglas and Holyfield always deflected (at least) some of the power from Tyson's shots. That's what top notch pros do: they sway a little sideways and bend their necks to roll with the punches. This happens even when they appear to be hit flush in the head.
I doubt anyone could remain conscious if hit by the full force of a Tyson punch to the jaw. Nature did not mean for the human body to withstand that kind of force.
Re: McBride vs Thomas
Pinky would outbox McBride behind his quick left jabs and right hands from long range to either take a decision or late round stoppage.
Re: McBride vs Thomas
Prime on prime Thomas, fairly easily. Great jab and would control the fight. Weird comparison between how McBride beat a long washed up Tyson at the end of his career so he would smoke Thomas, who got KO’d by Tyson 17 years earlier, six months into his first title reign when he was a monster
