F**king terrible picture to choose, I bet the boneheaded producers didn’t ask Ricky’s opinion about that

Yeah why pick a picture of one of his lowest points

Good picture to be fair, and if the documentary looks at his low points then why not use it? Big Hatton fan, hope it's a bit deeper than the older Sky stuff just painting him as a man of the people bobbing round in his Reliant

I like the picture. A different approach than the usual gloss over.

Hasn't this been done to death already? I hope it isn't full of his ''jokes''
I'd love a legit reason why he didnt fight the WBC champ junior witter just after the floyd loss. A better match up and draw than lazcano.

Because he couldn’t stand Witter and didn’t want to give him a big payday.
Witter may well have been a better match up but I doubt he would have been a bigger draw - the 55k attendance for the Lazcano bout was a post war record at the time
Re: Documentary on Ricky Hatton due for release Aug 31st
Hope they talk about his timing of when he decided to declare his mental health problems - soon after the pic of him snorting coccaine and having an affair with that Irish boxing lass made front page news.
Not saying Ricky played the mental health card and did not have issues, but would he have brought it to the public and raised such awareness if it wasn't for that picture.
The Pacquiao fight was an odd one, terrible start then seemed to be (albeit recklessly) finding himself in the fight and then boom. Always wondered what would have happened had he not got caught at that time and gone into the 3rd round.

If I found GGG in bed with my missus I’d tuck him in.

Yep, Ricky’s expertly timed playing of the mental health card was clearly a cynical ploy to deflect attention from his lifestyle issues. This served as a blueprint for Tyson Fury who took it to the next level, virtually assuming the status of mental health ambassador to turn eyes away from some of his more unpalatable behaviour.stujones wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 06:42 Hope they talk about his timing of when he decided to declare his mental health problems - soon after the pic of him snorting coccaine and having an affair with that Irish boxing lass made front page news.

Very true, again I think it was obvious (not meaning to big myself up but I research Mental Health as part of my job) that both Ricky and Tyson had/have very legitimate issues - in hindsight you could probably see it a mile away even before the papers exposed lifestyle issues and perhaps both needed to be caught out before seeking the help they needed. At the same time though, I do wonder if they would have been such ambassadors had they not been caught.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 07:18Yep, Ricky’s expertly timed playing of the mental health card was clearly a cynical ploy to deflect attention from his lifestyle issues. Re: Documentary on Ricky Hatton due for release Aug 31st
I’m a natural cynic and maybe my cynicism is misplaced here but for me Hatton and Fury merely went through periods of being a bit down much like everyone else on the planet does. No big deal and certainly not worthy of vast outpourings of sympathy. The trouble is that mental health is such a burgeoning industry now that there’s a willingness to categorise “feeling a bit upset” as a mental health issue in order to grease the wheels of the gravy train.stujones wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 07:27 Very true, again I think it was obvious (not meaning to big myself up but I research Mental Health as part of my job) that both Ricky and Tyson had/have very legitimate issues - in hindsight you could probably see it a mile away even before the papers exposed lifestyle issues and perhaps both needed to be caught out before seeking the help they needed. Their “suffering” is a world away from what Bruno and Eubank Sr seem to have gone through, I’ve very sympathy for their plight.

I previously worked in a CMHT and currently work most days with people experiencing serious mental health issues.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 07:55I’m a natural cynic and maybe my cynicism is misplaced here but for me Hatton and Fury merely went through periods of being a bit down much like everyone else on the planet does. Most, if not all people will have episodes of being low in mood. Life is a rollercoaster of good times and bad times which our mood will reflect.
I sure Hatton & Fury experienced high and lows exactly the same. But I don't believe for a second Fury has bipolar .. anyone who has worked or witnessed a person experiencing that will say exactly the same.

The problem with “mental health” (whatever the fukk that vague term means) is that you can’t call people out for being bullshitters.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 07:55I’m a natural cynic and maybe my cynicism is misplaced here but for me Hatton and Fury merely went through periods of being a bit down much like everyone else on the planet does. I genuinely think Tyson Fury & Ricky Hatton have been excellent with regards mental health.
If both of them have helped 1 person I think thats good news

I think Ricky Hatton was excellent for British boxing.jtourettes wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 12:37He was an entertaining fighter no doubt, but he did avoid Witter, had a couple of very fortunate decisions in his favour and then bored me silly with his man of the people schtick.
I also think he has had a hard time personally, some things he brought on himself but nonetheless he had it tough.

I am very surprised that David Haye has not brought out a documentary.
In the entire time I was with David, he employed a camera man who literally went everywhere with him.
