Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois - 26 August 2023
Very weird fight.
Wet ring really would have hurt usyk with his brilliant movment.
That body shot i think was justttt low, just low is low, but i have seen much lower allowed by A-sides. the resulting 5 mins was weird, usyk wanted to contiune after about 2 mins because he didnt want DDD resting, but ref was weirdly over-ruling him
That stoppage, i dont know, i think DDD was up in time. DDD was in the midst of checking out, but i dont think that should have been stopped.
Over all DDD did better than AJ, i have no doubt of that, Was that Usyks age catching up, or just a few lucky/unlucky moments.

He was done, it was one of them get up at 9 and a half and hope the ref stops it - Well that's how it looekd to me. DD didn't object one bit.

It was exactly the same as Malik Scott vs Chisora. Up before ten, but counted out in the act of rising?Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑26 Aug 2023, 18:25 He was done, it was one of them get up at 9 and a half and hope the ref stops it - Well that's how it looekd to me. DD didn't object one bit.

My thoughts decent fight, maybe DDD should be champion, I'm not sure that punch was in the balls, commentary was absolute AIDs though all about DDD getting close with a punch but not mentioning the ten solid jabs Usyk landed before hand.

Dubois is definitely a quitter. I think that settled that argument.

Fair fvks to Daniel Dubois I thought he'd be swiftly dealt with but he actually gave Usyk one of his toughest fights, robbed of a knockdown in the 5th, borderline shot should've been ruled a KD, would Usyk have been able to make count if the ref scored it? We'll never know but Dubois hurt him several times to the body in there, if the ref thought they were all low why didn't he take a point?
You play the cards you dealt though and Usyk slowly and methodically picked him off for the main, moved well front foot/back foot, his jab was class, after the "low blow" he upped the tempo started landing the straight lefts and right hooks, Dubois always looked dangerous with the body shots but Usyk dropped him end of the 8th with clubbing shots to the top of the head, thought Dubois was gonna get counted out then he looked done, the KO shot in the 9th was out the top drawer, jolting jab hit Dubois like a power punch, knew Dubois wasn't getting up
All in all banana skin just about dealt with, can't argue with the ending but the controversy of that low blow is gonna rumble on

I refuse to call it a quit if you were up by 10 facing the ref.. I dont think he wanted to continue but he did get up in time and faced up to the ref.

Have watched it again and again and the punch was low. Marginal perhaps, but low.

That’s what boxers do. Wait til 9 count and get up knowing the ref will stop itgregregegg wrote: ↑26 Aug 2023, 18:29I refuse to call it a quit if you were up by 10 facing the ref.. I dont think he wanted to continue but he did get up in time and faced up to the ref.

Usyk will win that one.
