Was Usyk vs Dubois a Lose-Lose?

Post by Ricky »

Dubois came out of this looking like a cry-baby quitter. Crumbled by a hard jab and looked like he had had enough.

Usyk, not for the first time, looked so uncomfortable with body shots he was looking to the ref constantly and spent 3 minutes trying to win an oscar for a shot that, was probably low, but hit mostly on the lower abdominals.

Fwiw I've followed both these guys careers since day 1 and enjoyed following their careers, but at this point i think Dubois doesn't have the heart to go any further and Usyk is a very vulnerable champion on borrowed time.

well dubois pretty much admitted after the fight to being a mentally weak fighter - that he was disheartened and it prevented him from getting momentum. i think there can be no doubt about that now. physically he has the tools, but when boxing at top level he's going to fall short most of the time

usyk i thought won every round and then stopped dub. played with him for the most part. better, than say having your face ripped open by otto wallin in an 8-4 decision. i dont think he was as off as a lot of people are saying, i think it's conflating the low blow incident with his overall performance

I would say Usyk's stock has dropped somewhat, purely from people that like a band wagon to jump on.

In truth Dubois was not even close to the task. I gave him a share of one round and the judges had it near enough a shut out.

Do you not think a few HW will have watched him vs Dubois and felt more confident of beating him? His feet certainly slowed over the course of the 9 rounds and he can be bullied to the body.

some people saying Usyk wasnt at his best which is probably fair .
And yet he still totally outclassed DD who resorted to the low blow to gain advantage cos all else was failing .
Oh and in case anyone forgot the over the hill in decline champ also KO` D him in some style with a nonchalant jab .

Maybe yes, there's been a long standing thought process that Usyk doesn't like it to the body and that was probably galvanised by what some people saw on Saturday. Truth is Dubois was never in the fight and fell away badly after a few rounds. He's 10 years the junior of Usyk and had clearly whipped himself into the best shape of his life and was still worn out by the end of the fight. Usyk even on this perfomance on saturday still has that ability to pressure his opponenets to the point of exhaustion, both mentally and physically.

Well basicly what everyone above is saying , I'll just add Usyks camp would have just has much right to put in complaints about the previous low blows , and lack of points deduction and /or disqualification for continuous low blows DD used , and it still does'nt hide the fact DD could'nt win a rnd and quit AGAIN

Usyk arguably won every round and stopped a big, ranked heavyweight inside 9 rounds. If you had offered him that going into the fight I'm sure he would have taken it.

I don't think there was much there to worry Fury though. If they meet, Fury will show himself to be something Usyk has never had to contend with before.

Fury's size, strength and ring smarts is a package Usyk has never had to contend with before and that's why I can't see Usyk beating him. He may well give Fury his biggest challenge yet though.

ya he's got some very good attributes for sure, and when you fuel those with boar testosterone he's especially dangerous

btw, i know another southpaw, otto wallin, who despite being vastly worse than usyk absolutely tore fury up. fury should be fave but a win over usyk isnt foregone. you gotta actually fight the fights, we gotta see the undisputed clash nextt when fury's done with the mma guy

He was shatting himself before the bell you could tell. He was quite stiff rather than bouncing around before the announcements.

Dubois was a huge underdog so he’s hardly lost much.
Usyk lying shaking on the floor has damaged his reputation. His comments about being hit in the balls has damaged his credibility.

Usyk didn't lose a round, there's a round I think that could have been shared but even there Usyk snapped Dub's head back a good few times to winit on my card.

I remain convinced had the referee started counting, Usyk would have just stood up and managed the round out and then managed the next round out and voila he's recovered and Dubois is in the cross hairs once again.

If that happens vs Fury, AJ or Wilder and the ref starts counting it may be a different story.

Do you think he was acting whilst laying on the floor shaking?
