I actually think it's quite refreshing, I doubt very much it was sanctioned without his sayso.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 02:38 F**king terrible picture to choose, I bet the boneheaded producers didn’t ask Ricky’s opinion about that

I came onto say this. I think he did play the mental health card, and I'm sure max Clifford was advising him.stujones wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 06:42 Hope they talk about his timing of when he decided to declare his mental health problems - soon after the pic of him snorting coccaine and having an affair with that Irish boxing lass made front page news.
Not saying Ricky played the mental health card and did not have issues, but would he have brought it to the public and raised such awareness if it wasn't for that picture.
The Pacquiao fight was an odd one, terrible start then seemed to be (albeit recklessly) finding himself in the fight and then boom. Always wondered what would have happened had he not got caught at that time and gone into the 3rd round.
Re: Documentary on Ricky Hatton due for release Aug 31st
I always felt Hatton was a bit of a weasel making the pac fight. At the time manny was considered a little guy on a good run, who’d shone against David Diaz and got lucky vs a shot and weight depleted Oscar. No one whether that win was more about what Oscar had left. Ricky thought he was gonna steam roller a little guy and collect a name, it somewhat backfired.

Haye's ego has the weight of a supermassive black hole.

Witter was shite, a boring dullard of a fighter who lucked into being a "world champion" by beating American journeyman DeMarcus Corley.
Hatton would have dealt with him with little trouble, it's actually a shame he didn't fight him, would have been an easy payday for him.

Nah you can’t call man like Chop Chop a journeyman. He was good. Not on Hatton’s level though.banjo wrote: ↑28 Aug 2023, 09:14 Witter was shite, a boring dullard of a fighter who lucked into being a "world champion" by beating American journeyman DeMarcus Corley.

Been out on the piss with Ricky a few times post-retirement. He’s a genuine wreckhead and does some dodgy stuff when he’s blitzed, wonder how much will be shown in this docco?

Corley was good for a bit, early 2000s but he did f*ck all after losing to CottoDelta Jay wrote: ↑28 Aug 2023, 09:17Nah you can’t call man like Chop Chop a journeyman. He was good. I’d have expected Hatton to win but Witter certainly was not ‘shite’.
I’m running 100km on September 9th so spending a lot of time on the treadmill, I’ll watch this tomorrow.

British rankings as of the time of Hatton vs Magee
1.Hatton
2.Magee
3.Witter
Witter ducked Magee (and shat it from the pretty volatile and unpredictable Irishman at a different weigh in) Hatton fought and beat Magee getting up off the canvas for the first time in his career and really having to show some boxing skills to Magees slippery, yet dangerous southpaw counterpunching skills, Magee had just put a thrashing on Jon Thaxton in five rounds after Ricky went had that 12 round bloody war with him, that was a big statement.
By the time Hatton moved on, they were on different pathways, and I didn't really care to see it any more, Hatton would be bringing all the money anyway

As a fan of boxing, I don't care about the money, only the fights. I would've liked to have seen it so we'd know who would've won rather than only talk who might have.GreenLightning wrote: ↑30 Aug 2023, 22:49jtourettes wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 12:37He was an entertaining fighter no doubt, but he did avoid Witter, had a couple of very fortunate decisions in his favour and then bored me silly with his man of the people schtick.

I only watched the magee fight the once and I felt magee should've got the nod but I was pretty inebriated and didn't see many call robbery so I'll assume I'm wrong on that

Re: Documentary on Ricky Hatton due for release Aug 31st
Never liked Hatton. Most overrated fighter from these shores.
For someone with 45 wins, he has only a handful of good names on his resume. The rest is bums, no-hopers and cherry-picked defences. I mean, C-Level Paulie likely cracks into his top three victories, which speaks volumes.
His jokes were shit too. And he tried too hard to come across like a regular bloke from down the pub, when I always got the feeling he was a colossal prick.
He got very lucky to fight Kostya when he did, when he was still classed as a top fighter, but had clearly gone over his peak and was ripe for the picking.
His legacy is getting humbled by Mayweather and Pacman. And, if the rumours are true, Mayweather also porked Hatton's mum in the buildup to the fight.

Re: Documentary on Ricky Hatton due for release Aug 31st
The same Ricky Hatton who always struggled with southpaws, getting decimated by Pacquaio, was out on his feet against Collazo arguably losing and bounced off the canvas against Magee? The latter 2 being level or 2 below Witter and the former being a level or 2 above. Yea Ricky had 'little trouble' with slick southpaws with rapid southpaw right hooks. It was a genuine 50-50 fight, if Witter shouldn't be the favourite based on styles.banjo wrote: ↑28 Aug 2023, 09:14 Witter was shite, a boring dullard of a fighter who lucked into being a "world champion" by beating American journeyman DeMarcus Corley.

Ricky never fancied the Witter and he avoided other southpaws like Judah, Mitchell or Corley at 140 too. He only took on Collazo because he looked like a none punching soft touch and was seen as the weakest Welterweight belt holder with a bad loss on his record.
HE also initially avoided Mayweather at 140. His Dad stated they turned the fight down 7 times, starting in 2004, before finally accepting it in 2007 when his belt wasn't at stake.
Great win against a past prime Tyszu but a very carefully managed career.
